OK this is a long story i will try to make it as short as i can with only the important facts
I sold a pup as a pet on pet contract ( neuter no later than 12 months)
12 months go by all is fine dog is wonderfull. Dog is being taken to be neutered or so i thaught.
I get a copy from the owner saying the decided to have a Vasectomy done insteade od neuter.. I was anoyed as this was not part of our agreement. But I did not make any fuss over it as there are worse things.
4 weeks pass and i get a email sayng he had a weird aggresive moment and was gorwling at the owner from the kennel. She was asking if this is a working line thing( trait) and i have never seen this before myself  with any dog.
I recomeded the owner take the dog to the vet for Exam to find out what is wrong.
The owner Informs me that he has a prostate infection and that the vet belaves this to be Genetic. My 3 vets say this is crap..
Her vet tells her that it is just like hips problems are belaved to be genetic..  OK I had her talk to my vets who told her this was falce. She said her vet is very sure it is.
OK puts dog on meds all is fine  dog goes off meds and is back to doing this aggresive thing and just kind of happens at any moment. she did send me a video and the dog looks like he is in pain.
she wanted to not do a full neuter for a few years from now. But is is saying that she can not keep him as he is unsafe.
I feel bad for this dog and want to have him returned to me if that is what is best for him.
My vets do not understand why she will not neuter him and see if this will end his pain.. As they all 3 seem to think that this is the casue of the problem. Owner od the dog is in another state.
has anyone had this happen with a dog?
has anyone done a Vasectomy ? and why ?
how would you as the breeder Deal with this ?
would you replace the dog is the ower returns it?
thanks for your comments
If anyone would like more info i will provide it with a phone call. Please PM me and we can talk about it more . I will not disclose names as i am not trying to start anything.

Just when you think you've heard it all....

As you probably know, prostate problems are fueled by testosterone. If she'd neutered the dog in the first place, she wouldn't have had a problem with him.

What I would do if I were you, is take the dog back and neuter it to get it out of its pain. As to whether I'd refund her money/give her a replacement pup, did she sign a sales contract that guarantees a replacement? If so, what does it cover? Most of the ones I've seen only cover hips and elbows.

In the end, it's how much do you value this woman's good will, and what can you afford to do for her in this rotten economy!

yes i know about the testoserone and the prostate problems. I have a contract for return of the dog if they cant or dont want it.  replacement in my contract are for hip and elbows. contract was void when the dog was not neutered correctly and hips were not done at 12 months eather. so i do not owe anything per say. I do not want cheat the buyer of the pup or myself. I would gladly repalce a pup if there was something like a nuralogical problem or weirdo blood disorder or something outside of the buyers conrtole if i felt they did what is best for the dog. This is harder for me becasue i want what is best for the dog. I beleave that the owner of the dog loves him very much. I dont know how to deal with this as i have 2 vets who are my vets saying she needs to neuter him the right way and that after that if there is something elce wrong then i may consider  replaceing the dog.  But at this piont i have a owner who wants him to have his balls LOL to just be there..

So, tell her to get him a pair of neuticles!  LOL!

I shouldn't laugh: sounds like this gal has a screw loose...

I think that you should tell her to neuter the dog or give it back, she went against your contract, he was to be NEUTERED by 12 months, this did not happen.
I work at a Vets office and we have never done a Vasectomy, why would you?
I agree with Sunsilver, have her neuter him or you neuter him and get him out of pain. and then go from there. If the neuter doesn't help then figure out what it is and fix it
I hope that everything works out for the best for Her,you and mostly the dog.

I have recently heard that the holistic purists believe that a male should not be neutered until 3 years of age and a female shouldn't be spayed until 18 months. Their reasoning & theory ? Because dogs need their ALL of their hormones to properly develop and mature. They feel premature neutering and spaying is part of the reason so many dogs have skeletal/muscle problems, as well as other health problems. I am not a vet or an expert, but it actually makes a some sense to me, but Iam not a vet! So, maybe this lady is not neutering for this reason. A vascectomy does not stop hormone production. That said, if my dog had chronic prostate infections, I'd neuter him.

well see my Repo vet seems to think that had he been neutered all would be normal. But he got a vasectomy and that may have caused the prostate infection that is causeing the dog to be in such pain and act out. He does not know how to deal with the pain he is having. So they seem to think that with a good round of antibiotics and a neuter that he will be all back to normal.

i talked to my Repo vet about neutering early  Vers later. He said that dogs still produce hormoes in lower levals after they are spayed or neutered and this is why they do not need to be on any hormone meds after they are fixed. He does not feel that this causes any problems for the dogs. I have read the articals about it and i am sure that this may be what is going on here. But even if it is the reson she still signed a contract to neuter him at 12 months old not give him a vasectomy. I was not informed of this decision till after she had it done and sent me the proff of his sergury.

"she wanted to not do a full neuter for a few years from now. But is is saying that she can not keep him as he is unsafe."

If this were my dog, I'd get him back immediately. She may euthanize him for being aggressive, and it's clear that he's no longer wanted. He also appears to be in pain that you are willing to fix but she won't. The longer he stays with her, the longer he suffers.
