so how do you actually start teaching tracking to your dogs?
For me right now I also have several feet of snow to contend with, and Hexen is 11 weeks old
Thank you

Shove a treat under the snow with something, leave no other scent.
Make it fun.
Make it fun.

I always started with a fav toy, then never used that toy for anything other than tracking, I've never used food, I also had a special word that I used for tracking. From what I can glean on here, Sch tracking is different to WT tracking, which is what I did... I'm not too sure what the difference is, because I've been too lazy to look it up.

If the pup has a favorite toy try that. But remember not to contaminate the scent and dont go to deep in the snow.
This isn't a training techique, just fun in the snow for an 11 week old puppy.

You need to buy the book you were inquiring about, the one by Gary Patterson. It will CLEARLY show you what you need to do. Now, that I perused through it more and read more chapters, it is a good book.
His tracking chapter is very valuable for teaching a green dog or a puppy to track, step by step.
