Talked the ex into making the nearly 3 hour trip this morning to have Trigger's hips x-rayed. I thought he injured himself  last month playing in the snow because he was having so much trouble getting around. He couldn't make it up on the couch or bed and was having major difficulties with the basement steps. I waited a month thinking he just sprained something and would get better. But he was getting worse. So decided to have some x-rays to find out what was going on.

Turns out that Trigger passed his hip x-rays with flying colors. The vet couldn't even see any arthritis and in her opinion, thought Trigger would easily pass OFA. Turns out Trigger has Lyme disease!!! I feel pretty stupid as I had no clue his symtoms were Lyme disease. My ex is on the way back right now with medication for Trigger and has an appointment to bring him back in a week for more blood tests. Can't believe how wrong I was.....sorry everyone.

Great news about the hips not great about the Lyme's.At Least its treatable .I have been wondering what was going on with trigger.Could someone tell me how to make this box size smaller?

wuzzup, I think you would have to put in a less tall avatar? Seems the avatar size affects box size.

Best wishes for Tigger's speedy recovery!

The lesser of two evils I guess, glad nothing was on the Xray.
Lymes is nothing to mess with either.   It can have long lasting effects so make sure the treatment is complete and don't take any shortcuts.

My dog nearly died from Rocky MOuntain spotted fever.  You need to treat Lyme aggressively, and long term, longer than is conventionally prescribed, with doxycyline.  Do not treat this lightly, or it lingers.

Thanks beetree .Damn those ticks.

The only clue I had that maybe it wasn't his hips was in the last few days he was falling asleep while eating.Figured it had to be something more than just his hips. I'm really relieved that the x-rays turned out so well. Poor guy. Should have brought Trigger in last month but doubt the vet here in town would have tested him for Lyme disease.

We've seen lymes in people here, and spotted fever. plus a new strain similar to lymes but from the middle east.
I took shots one year for lymes.   A nieghbor has this new strain and its not curable, he layed in a comma before they found out what it was, could have died.
Another nieghbor was diagnosed last year with spotted fever.
Yes its a serious problem not to be taken lightly.
I live in a tick infested area and the only cure is a natural one that no body cares for... FIRE !
Thats a ticks only natural control, forest fires.
Keep the dogs on something like frontline, dip them if they've been in an infested area, you can dust them with Sevin, or like me, you take you chances.
I think the dogs do better than humans.

Sorry to hear this Triodegirl.....I lost my old boy Baer too Lyme..well it's treatment at the time...steriods...took out his Kidney's. The Lyme had only effected his joints at the time. In the training class I take Nicco too we had  a young male drop out two months ago due to Lyme...his sounds like yours....It attacked his Spine and spinal cord. It was caught fast and hopefully in time to treat it aggresively. It was terrible to see him act almost crippled in his lower spin to tail area. He was at training this past Tuesday and appeared to be much better...but is on some very heavy treatments. They have come along way with it's treatment now. Back when Baer had it...it was rather new to all and was not caught early. With this Pup Hank...they caught it fast! He was only 5 months old when caught. I hope that Trigger does well and can have a complete recovery. I also have a younger brother with Lyme...would not wish that on my worst enemy! You should see what a brain scan looks like on someone with Lyme....nasty stuff!
