Prescription drug coverage for dogs? - Page 1

Anyone have any experience with any of the plans that cover prescription drugs for dogs?  A dermalogist just recommended Atopica for my dog who has allergies.  I simply cannot afford it right now with all I've already spent on this dog and the approximate cost was over $400 a month...so before I start to panic and see if I can possibly find an extra part time job in this failing economy, I want to be sure there's no way I can get insurance to help with the costs.  Are there any insurance plans that would cover some of this?  Anyone have experience with pet insurance (good or bad)?  Any ideas, opinions, or suggestions are much appreciated.  Thank you all.

 I'm not sure where I originally saw the original post, but Wamart has $4.00 prescription plans.  I found the link - it has a list of drugs that qualify.  Apparently it also covers dog drugs...

Unfortunately WalMart doesn't cover it for $4  :(  Thanks for the idea though!

I'm also interested in finding a good insurace that covers (at least some) CBCc/labs, allergy testing, emergencies, and such.

I hope you have better luck with Atopica than I did with my last bitch, who had severe allergies and we tried Atopica and it didn't seem to make much difference at all--at least not enough to justify the cost. The one difference I did notice was the Atopica caused her to have really bad diarrhea, which got a little better over time, but it was still bad. Once we stopped the Atopica, the diarrhea stopped. This was after one ear abation surgery because of the infections caused by the allergies. We ended up having to resort to using prednisone, which fortunately our bitch did well with--not all do well with prednisone. She was on prednisone most of  her life and lived to 11.5 years before she got cancer. Good luck. I feel for you if your dog has severe allergies.
