London

What does everyone do with their dogs when they're sick?

I'm pretty much bed ridden at the moment with the flu. You know the type, where you can hardly muster the strength to get from the bed to the couch. Sleeping or lying around listlesssly day and night in a prescription drug haze while it's storming outside would be great if I didn't have a 10-month-old ball of energy that's desperately missing his 2 hour daily workout.

He's a housedog so he's taking all his "frustrations" out at my feet at the moment.....or more accurately...on my feet, or whatever else he can get into. It might be days before I can get him out in the manner he's accustomed to. My boyfriend is the only other person that the dog spends significant amounts of time with, but he's at his house suffering through the same flu. Any suggestions for what I can do, keeping in mind my very limited mental/physical state?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...by both the pup and me!

Thanks,

Karen

Get him a great big bone for the day...

And have a glass of orange juice.

Unless I'm completely incapacitated i.e. broken legs etc I'll always force myself to take the hound out for a bounce around, if only for a half hour or so.

Sometimes I find the fresh air & break from the prescription drugged stupor can be quite invigorating... and it always makes you feel good to be with a dog who's having a ball.

BTW London, I love the dark mosk of the dog in your avitar, is Esko in his/her pedigree?

Cheers,

AandA

Get a big bowls of his kibble and throw it all over the room/garden lol (yes I have done this only last week) Tons of frozen kong toys, bones ETC. Or buy a treadmill LMAO. Hope you feel better soon my sympathies, regards, Tracie.

Karen, I am sorry your sick, is there a neighbor that can take the wee one for their exercise? I liked the search for the dog kibble. I flew my mom in one year when I could not get out of bed.

That's what I was thinking, get a friend to load them up, take them to a park, and let them run for a bit.

Train your dog to get your apple juice and advil for you =]

Whenever I'm sick I always work with my dog on stuff that doesn't require a lot of movement on my part, a new trick or something that will help keep his attention and then I invite friends over to make me soup and take the dog out!

Get well soon!

If you go outside, bundle up. Especially wear a turtle neck and a scarf.  Make sure your head and ears are protected from the cold.  Do this especially if you have a fever.

If the back of your neck is warm, your body's thermostat will not be so disturbed.

Drink hot tea.

The kibble idea is good! Throw a ball, it's amazing how quickly they realize that the game only continues when they bring it back to you....when I was down with my shoulder surgery everyone learned to fetch!jh
