Just curious, has anyone ever had a female who when starting to nest would try to eat rocks out of the dirt? I've kept her from digging, but she will also try to pick up rocks....shes due on the 2nd.....and started this today....Is that just another part of the cleaning the den instinct? I just call her to me and she drops it, and comes to me. We've gotten everything prepared inside for her now for her, and I got about a week off from work coming up to help her with everything.

Let me rephrase.......she just started that tonight along with trying to dig...not today

I usually strictly monitor my pregnant girls while outside, to prevent instantaneous ravines being dug under my foundation or kennel platforms...so no, I have never witnessed rock eating. Good luck with the puppies!!

Thanks, and I do also. It's just she went under our deck and started taking rocks out. She is a Sibe....but that breed board on the database is basically non existant as I'm guessing no one with Sibes knows about the database. I've only seen one ad on there since I've been a member, and maybe one thread. Otherwise I would have been posting on that one. The reason I say all of that is because I would never allow her free access to the yard while I'm not outside. She will escape just like most any Husky if left alone.

I had a GSD bitch that did that, she ate some rocks out of our driveway one afternoon, 2 weeks before her due date. We rushed her to the vet, and sure enough she had 11 driveway rocks in her belly!  They gave her laxatives, and had us exercise her till she passed them, then yep, I had to actually go out and count for all 11 of the buggars!  Wasn't a fun task, but needless to say after that we never allowed her out of our sight when pregnant. She did subsequently have a healthy, normal litter with no other problems 2 weeks later.

Wuzzup, mine is mostly removing rocks from dirt areas. She did crunch on one, but I called her to me and she dropped it.   I'm curious as to what the vet said also about that though.

I would move her to her whelping box!  The only times my bitches nested like this puppies followed within 1 to 3 hours!

Alright Vickie, I'll update here in a few days most likely. As I will be here....but with her, and if I have to leave there is someone else here who can stay with her and help who also knows what to do....And obviously, once they are all here there will be many pictures to come.
