London

I brush my dog daily. Always have, even with my previous GSDs. I'm not talking about doing it for an hour, but 10-15 minutes with a rake and slicker. It's our quiet bonding time and keeps the shedding down to a minimum.

A couple of days ago it was suggested to me that I am overbrushing the dog and that I shouldn't be brushing that much during the winter months because the dead/loose hair provides an extra barrier against the cold. The dog is an indoor dog, but we get out daily for at least 2 hours, regardless of the weather (and it can get very cold).

Has anyone ever heard of this? Thoughts?

Only relevant if your dogs live outdoors.

My dogs could do with being groomed daily... how far away are you?

Hi Karen,I have had GSD's for over 40 years with almost all of them living inside and have never even heard of this.If anything, the grooming is healthy for the skin and coat.I would not let this bother me and would say just keep doing what you're doing.First of all,our dogs dont live outside where it can even remotly become an issue so keep on keepin on young lady and dont worry about it.

You certanly are not doing nothing wrong in giving them a brush everyday

Mine live outdoors 24/7 and i get to brush and groom them three times a week more if they get really dirty during training

but normally three times, You can come over to groom my fellows if you like after you have been to miss beebs

Steve
