My GSD puts on weight so easily.  I have had to cut back on his Royal Canine dry food and he is so hungry he is now forming bad habits of jumping on counters and such looking for food.  Can anyone tell me what food I can add to his dry food that will help him feel full but not be too fattening?  I was told Green Beans by a trainer but would like more ideas.  Thank you.

Shredded carrots?  If it's really bad, some say, use shredded tissue... sounds pretty awful to me, how about leaving him with a decent meaty bone?

Try feeding him the Royal Canin Weight Care. You can increase the amount you feed, it is good protein level and less calories and he probably will do very well on it.

Have you made sure his weight gain is not related to a medical issue like hypothryoidism or heart issues etc? Is he getting enough exercise? How old is he? Intact or neutered and if neutered at what age?  What dog sports do you do with him?

A raw carrot will give him more shewing satisfaction than shredded.

Also how much dry are you currently feeding him?

Oat Meal or rice...Boil it, the raw oats/rice...great filler and fiber

Supplement Fish Oil tab as well. 1000mg

And any table scraps-meat or veggies

Mine gets clean up duty with 3 messy kids, seems to like Christmas cookies the best

I feed RAW but had a female that was overweight and a friend suggested this diet. It worked and kept her from being to hungry, it is low cal. and I guess filling. 2/3 the amount of food you feed plus one cup (per feeding) toasted oat or rice cereal. Cold cereal found in the grocery store and sometimes you can find it in those big plastic bags. Its really reasonable in price and she seemed to like it just fine, also she has now kept the weight off.

Carrots contain a lot of terrific nutrients..But if you dont have the mega bucks on this supplement to be paid,  just throw your carrots in the blender  , bump it three or four times and put into a container and add to your dog food....

along with other things you desire

Add more exercise

The following is my opinion (obviously) #1 reason dogs get fat: sterilization #2 reason: too high of a carbohydrate content in their food. Possible solution for dogs with excess weight: 1- Raw diet 2- Barring that, at least a "Grain Free" food like Evo or Merrick Before Grain. Canned diets with raw meaty bones as additives are better than dry food diets but many folks feel they can't afford to feed large dogs canned without any dry. If you feel you must stick with his current food - any additives should be protein and/or fat. (Never add any carbohydrates to a diet that probably has way too high of a carb content.) Again, raw meaty bones would be a good idea. The following are what I believe are very ineffective ways for reducing weight: Underfeeding the dog so they are always hungry (not only ineffective - but mean as well) Using "Light" or "low cal" foods Adding veggies to their meals Exercising more Restricting fat or protein (the very worst thing to do) Good Luck!
