Poodle

I thought you talk about anything on this site, at least that what i have been watching. With a name like Poodle ,it explains why you don't like my asking about Tiekerhook dogs.  This is a German shepherd message board. Not a poodle message board. We all have our own thoughts. poodul

what is your deal with tiekerhook dogs?? Have you ever trained a dog? I agree the kennel produces good working dogs if you train a certain way but if you do not then they can be just a pain in the ass. If you are just looking for a dog that is bred just for working ablilty and no show go look at the malinois, I did. And by the way tiekerhook dogs are not the way of the future, only a select few like to train the type of dog that koos is breeding.

Yes, Tiekerhook has certainly  earned a reputation breeding  some nice dogs; BUT is far from the only working line ONLY kennel breeding nice high drive  GSDs.  If you want a Tiekerhook dog, buy one by all means, but that is no guarantee of greatness, and is not stacking the deck any more than doing your homework and looking at what other  good kennels whose emphasis is on the work, are doing as far as breedings.

VonKohlenBerg:  Don't know for sure what you are trying to imply about Tiekerhook dogs being a pain if not trained "in a certain way", but if you are implying they are difficult dogs as a whole you are completely wrong - and I am speaking from personal experience.  Just because a dog is very high drive does not make him a difficult dog to train, in fact the higher the drive the easier as far as I'm concerned.

sueincc, I completely agree with you. some people do not like high drive dogs, I am not one of them. some people prefer just a pinch collar and that is fine, but with some lines, the ones with a lot of play drive, if you used just a prong to train IMO you would be wasting a lot of the dogs potential. some clubs like only sport dogs, so if you had a dog that was a bit more aggressive the club might not be willing to bring out the dog properly.

the tiekerhook kennel is just like all the bigger well established kennels. they put priorities on specific traits that they like and try and amplify those traits. I am not saying those traits are good or bad, personally though i like the dogs.

I have a 2 year old tiekerhook female. I think I know what you mean by a pain in the ass. I love to train her as she is very willing, not stubborn at all, but she requires a calm handler that does not over react. Her temperament with all people that she has met is super.

The pain in the ass part comes at home. On the days that I am too busy to play two ball for an hour she is difficult. Very barky (screaming), jumping on the counters (all fours), a bit spun if you know what I mean. I love this dog, but one at a time is enough for me. Although she makes me laugh, most "active pet homes" would not enjoy this type of dog I think.

Anyway, that's my experience.
