Just wondering at what age most of you think prelims are best done at.

by 4pack on 26 December 2008 - 17:12
I wouldn't do them before 7 months. I read the % of accuracy goes down each month of age and by 7 months, it was a fairly decent % of animals that were rated the same as at 2 years. So that is what I did.

I get all mine done at a year old for prelims.

I guess I'm never in that big of a hurry.
Sorry I don't bother with prelims. I do mine at two and submit them for OFA rating.

With my previous shepherds I had them prelimed at 12 months. Now, I am dragging my feet as Pharaoh is 15 months.
Guess what my New Years resolution will be? A stamp and OFA prelim.

I'm with ya on the dragging of the feet. I have been waiting fro 24 months for 2 years so I could get a clear on my dog. Now I'm too broke to shell out that much for something we can't eat or make $ with. Do I really wanna max out my CC for an OFA? I'm not breeding him anytime soon, so it can wait.

I don't know what age is best, but I like doing prelims because only Dr. Keller does them. I feel more comfortable with his opinion (better or worse) than the rotation vets.

Dr Keller is great and I really liked Dr Corely. OFA is good in my book but I thought I would add to the complications of getting it done by going for an a stamp at the same time.

I don,t send mine into OFA for the prelim only for rating at 24 months, at one year i just have my vet xray and check them his opinion is good enough for me to decide whether i,ve got isues or not my vet has been spot on with his evaluations.
