My barely 5 yr old male couldn't make it up on the bed this morning. Couldn't make it up on the couch, either. He won't even try. He was playing in the snow most of the day yesterday. I'm wondering did he fall on some ice? He can walk but just mopes around and looks sad. Gave him some hot dogs and he ate those. I called the vet this morning and she says bring him in for x-rays, which I planned on anyway. Hope it isn't hip dysplasia. After I bought Trigger I was told his sire Jevita Grando has thrown some dysplastic pups. My first shepherd had bad hips AND elbows. It's not a wonderful thing. Should probably bring in Bella for prelin x-rays at the same time so I don't have to worry about her.  Bummer.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you... could be he's just "pulled / strained" something!

Lets hope it was over worked from hard play in the snow slipping and flipping can pull muscles.

I will hope for you the best.

Thanks for all the well wishes and positive thoughts. I'm hoping Trigger just overdid it yesterday. He isn't limping or favoring one leg over the other. He's been sitting very gingerly and stands in front of the couch like he wants to jump but can barely get his front feet off the floor then gives up. I'm going to take Trigger to his old vet who moved out of town a few years ago. I trust her more than the ones around here. It will be well worth the trip.

(In my opinion....)

Most likely he is just muscle sore.  Same thing happened to my small dog.  He was very "quiet" one day... didn't seem in pain, but wasn't acting "normal", didn't jump around like he usually does...  anyway, long story short - I finally figured out he was just sore from the day before.  He had been swimming in a friends pool and having a jolly good time.     I do remember the pathetic face he gave me when he didn't want to jump up on my lap...lol... and he was a little stiff when he walked..but otherwise fine.   I was moments from taking him to the vet - until I remembered the day before.  He was back to normal on day two.

Kind of compare it to if you do strenuous activity one day that you normally don't do - most likely you will be a little sore the next day.  Same with our dogs.   If Trigger had a good time in the snow he most likely is just a bit sore and should work out of it.   I'll bet he'll be as good as new by tomorrow or the next day :-)

That being said-  just keep it in mind when you go to the vet.  Generally the vet will try to prescribe an anti-inflammatory such as Rimadyl...  which, in my opinion, I'd prefer to let nature takes it's course and let him recover naturally.  I'm not a big fan of automatic prescription dispensing.  There are WAY too many side effects of common drugs that are regularly prescribed to our dogs.

As with any prescription - (human and animal)..  research it first and arm yourself with knowledge.

Good Luck!
