The other term that has always made me cringe, (the first being World Class Puppies) is "Master Trainer." What exactly IS a Master Trainer? According to whom? Certified by... who/what? As far as I know there is no Almighty Governing Body with a standardized ciriculum or testing system legally responsible for certifying anyone as a Master Trainer, despite dozens that hand out certificates claiming said certification has been attained. So... what? Do people just wake up one morning and decide to make up new road signs and business cards?
Further, is it a coincidence that almost every Master Trainer I have ever met was a really pathetic excuse for a trainer with a line of crap marketing their lack of skills a mile long, and NONE of the many top trainers I respect and admire would be caught dead describing themselves as such?
Told ya'll I was gonna stir up some doo-doo next time the field was too icy to use safely. I have to stay close to my recovering dogs anyway today. Might as well stir the pot!
Mirthfully yours, SS

Your absolutely right Shelley...there's only one guy that we call a master trainer...and that's only because we call him that ...not because he calls himself that...and that is Phil Hoelcher...He is a mighty fine person and an excellent trainer as well...He's always very much fun to be around and will help you with anything you'd like...

Hey Shelley,
There are certifications for Police K9 trainers and one is a Master Trainer certification. There are requirements such as certifying/training a certain number of K9 handlers. Training and certifying K9 trainers for PD's and years of K9 training. It is not an easy certification to obtain. That is the only "official" master trainer certification that I know of.

slamdunk- I should have mentioned I didn't mean Law Enforcement K9 trainers, but public trainers at-large. LOL
schHbabe- Maybe you can give me a few tips on how to get my pooper-scooper out of the ice without breaking the handle off at the base next time. :-/ My flat-bottom snow shovel leaves a goopy-glob on the concrete floor. ha ha ha Now I need a new string mop-head too, since Goofball Jed reached under the run divider and dragged it into his kennel. "Aha Devil Mop! I've got you alone at LAST!"

Yes they all have their own standards to train by. The large problem is the lack of co operation and standardization of trainig among the usa and wda . the well being of the gsd has taken second place to politics and money. who is actually setting the standards? The sv ;usa or wda or gsdcoa. We have regular training seminars with one of the wda's national teaching helprs. The programs I have been instructed to view are balabanov. we do not use defense in training. To dangerous to possibly drive dog over the edge. But I am a newbie and still learning! There is nothing in the world like a german shepherd dog.BOOOYAAA

One of my best friends has trained K9s for over 20 years and is well thought of by many fellow K9 trainers. He has never called himself a Master Trainer or any other such designation. He lets his work speak for him and I respect that in anyone.
Those that give themselves these fancy titles crack me up (unless it is backed up by a recognized entity like EMS paramedic certification, firefighter training, police training, all of which have reasonably similar standards across the board to use some examples). If one has to pump up one's abilities, I always wonder why????
That's just my personal view
