Good morning,OR IS IT.Over 160 animals dead after a terrible fire destroyed the Durham Humane Society in Ontario Canada.Despite efforts made to save them only app 7 dogs and 2 cats live. They are not sure if its vandels that set the fire as they have had break ins etc. What a horrible thing to do if it was infact set purposely. If anyone is interested in helping, you may look them up at Duram Humane Society.

Hi Dominic,
I read your link. Very, very sad. The cause of the fire is unknown, but staff mentioned in the article having electrical wiring problems in the facility that were known about and not repaired for lack of funds.
In my own area, the budget for the humane society, which does not even service most of the county in the past because of lack of budget, has just had another huge and I mean huge budget slash. How they can even operate at all is a question. Of course, other critical services such a law enforcement, fire, emergency preparedness etc., have also been slashed drastically, all because of the economic situation here in our country.
One can be certain that when times are tough, one of the first things people will forget about is the animals. I have seen a huge increase in requests to take in dogs into my rescue. Unfortunately, it is simply impossible because I am not meeting expenses as it is. Give all too many people an excuse to dump their animals, they will.
Instead of thinking about what all of us want for Christmas, it might be a kind thing to consider a small donation to some organization, be it this one with the fire or your local shelter. And give too to organizations like the Salvation Army. We can all spare a few bucks and do without some coffee or burger....

Hi Sharyn, well said as always.Yes,I agree that people should take a small amount even as small as a small bag of food or the value of it and help out some of these places and places like yours, the rescues.Im sure that there are decent people like yourself out there that want to help genuinly and not to just put in there own pockets as im sure some will think. These dogs do more than most ever imagine, seizure alert, blind dogs, dogs that literlly help disabled people live there lives. You know what really makes me sick is that there are people out there that make serious money from dogs but you never hear of them reaching out to anyone to offer help.No im not some bleeding heart but come on man, wake up and smell the coffee especially when some are responsible for mass producing the overwhelming, staggering number of strays, impounded and labratory dogs out there and to think that they sell puppies for upwards of 2 grand, unbeleivable.Anyway enjoy the rest of your day if you can.
