LOL Good luck with your letter!
I don't suppose you emailed the BBC asking them to support the GSD Breed Council in their quest to better the lot of the GSD... a far greater and more necessary cause?

I think i might have been snoozing. Do you have a link or info on the BC's proposals for the KC?
PS: if you do please start a new thread so as not to derail this one which is pretty sparse as it is

I would love to see anything on TV that would encourage members of the public to train their darn dogs instead of letting them run loose and come up barking into my and my dog's face! Aaarrgghhh!
Seriously though, maybe people would then also get to see the 'working versions' of the popular breeds.

I too, believe MORE people would enjoy WORKING DOG competitions, than those that are shown EVERY SUNDAY MORN, on AP, with your dogs, all shapes and sizes, going round the ring. Many of which are REPEATS of YEAR(s) old shows.
don't have to be Sch. trials, herding, agility, SAR, WOULDN'T IT BE LOVELY!

Obedience as in Ch C has all the interest for Joe bloggs as paint drying; it is specialised and has all the appeal of underwater chess.
Tracking - as above
Gundog work - the majority of Field Trials would be unrecordable as getting to the ground would be quite a job, if you had not already scared all the game off with all the pre prep work the actual work is very unspectator friendly for obvious reasons.
Sled dog - we see a little of it, but again very specialised because few people have the facilities and/or money for sport or the dogs etc.
Lure coursing will bring out the antis as will field trials.
We have had programmes about police dogs on the tv several times with the unfortunate side effect of making some of us roll about with hysterical laughter when some forces call their dogs "land sharks", or when their dogs retrieve evidence, or when they bite when they should not (and vice versa); as for demonstrating how dogs find cadavers and drugs (after the handler put his sweaty mitts all over the article/container) this was real belly larf stuff.
Bitework - great in the current climate with yet another bill being proposed via the private members bill around dog bites etc how popular is this going to be and then we will have yet MORE antis re PD in Working Trials and Schutzhund.
Agility is spectator friendly, on at Olympia and screened, PAT dogs would perhaps be somewhat less than exciting
Not meaning to sound negative but these programmes are generally only of interest to the initiated.........

There is no way the BBC or any other Channel in the Uk would show any kind of sport that includes bitework. There is so much anti-dog legislation in this country already, and the vast majority of the Brittish public would be horified to see dogs being trained in bitework---sad, but true. Most people believe that only the police etc should have dogs that are trained to bite. Even though most police dogs I have seen work in "real life" look very much--not under control!!!!! The Brittish public prefer more sedate doggy pursuits such as One Man and His Dog, Flyball and so on. Anyway, how would showing more doggy sport programmes improve the health of the GSD?????????????
