What is the difference between working dog sport, schutzhund and ipo?

by CrashKerry on 12 December 2008 - 15:12
Very little.

Working Dog Sport is essentially GSDCAS and AKC's attempt to placate the SV, WUSV and FCI regarding the US being so out of step with the rest of the world when it comes to gsds. Only four breed clubs are permitted to hold the WDS trials, and only the gsds and dobies have bothered, AFAIK. There was no judging program, so a magic wand was waved and a bunch of people just "became" WDS judges. That has since been changed.

To me the issue is, 1) are the dogs going to be required to do the same things that dogs do in IPO/SCH, 2) is the judge qualified by standards that would be acceptable in other FCI trials, 3) does the judge and decoy require the performance to meet internationally accepted standards. If these things are in place then this can only be beneficial to the breed here in the States and I really don't care about the politics of the past....JMO
