Going through some old photos this morning I came across a oicture of my daughter Jen, age 3, with our first GSD, Gryndle; NJ, 1979 or 1980. Breeder sold her to me for $50.00 (which I thought was outrageous!) without papers, saying her mother was from Germany, but she was bred by his 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/2 Belgian Shepherd after she was bred by his German import stud, by accident, so he couldn't register the litter. My daughter was thrilled with her Christmas puppy, & she grew to be the very best dog, God rest her soul. Sigh! Just thought I'd share....sometimes Christmas pups are a wonderful thing....I wish I could give her a hug & kiss her furry face! Anyone else with first GSD/Christmas pup memories??? jackie harris

Cute picture Jackie! Mine wasn't a Christmas puppy, but a 4th of July Puppy in 1970.

Cute pics!
'my' first GSD(s) was a litter of 5 GSD mixes born at the nearby horse stable in the Netherlands where my dad had his harness horse stabled. It was a hilarious gang of dogs as all were males, and all were called HENKIE. You called HENKIE once and all would show up! Wish I had pics of them and me charging through the forests together!!!

If you were talking about me, yes, that's me. Mitzi was my replacement dog for our shepherd that was hit by a car at a lake resort. I saw it happen! So we went out the NEXT day and I got to pick out Mitzi! She lived to be 13 years old, and hardly ever went to the vet and was fed table scraps and what ever kibble was on sale at the grocery store!

Here is my first GSD. He chose ME. He origionally belonged to the neighbors but spent all of his time at my house. Even if it was just sitting on the porch waiting for me to show up. He eventually (after 2 years) was picked up by animal control and the "owners" were NOT going to "bail him out" so my mom "bailed him out" for me. This was i n1978.
This is my first registered GSD. (Don't mind the stack. I was 14yo.) I got her when I was almost 12 (in 1979). She was a birthday present, but I was able to pick her out myself as a 7 week old puppy. I have had GSDs ever since but she was my "once in a lifetime" dog. The best dog I have ever had.
