After some serious taught i have decided that i want to nreed my bitch .. she is of an excellent pedigree and at a young age done well at show levels.. unfortunately i never kept at it for one reason or another. M y bitch was never hip-scored and was just wondering will most breeders only allow the male to breed with a hip-scored bitch. and is it to late for first litter at 4? thanks for any replys much appreciated..

Not too late for an OFA xray of hips and elbows and a litter afterwards.  Veronica

yeah whatever. .thanks veronice just not too sure whether it would be too late to get it done or not.. talked to my vet and she wasn't too convincing.

not too late, take her to the vet and get her hips and elbows x-rayed, send to OFA or Penn Hip and get them rated before even considering breeding her.  Then take her to a trainer or someone who breeds (and who breeds quality dogs) and have them assess her temperament - or take her to a working club - somehow get her temperament assessed, have someone look at her pedigree - and lots  more to think about before taking the  next step to breeding her.

4 is not too late, but you do need to consider health and that includes hip x-rays and OFA for record.  Is your dog free of faults?  Had any issues with health?

Then consider the work involved and the market.

I bred a dog that was declared unworthy by some of the members of this board so I know what it feels like to be judged.

I had my reasons and decided to go ahead with it.   Everyone has their own opinion on this.  I respect the board and fully understand their concerns, you should think about this and not just jump into it.

Its expensive and the market for pups is really bad .  No one wants to see puppys in a shelter or worst.

Ask yourself why?

Just be responcible for what you do.

Is your dogs pedigree in the database?

If she's worth breeding to you then she's also worth doing the tests to verify that she's clean hips/elbows, Von Wildebrands, Thyroid... From a BUYER'S point many educated buyers would be unwilling to purchase a puppy from a bitch/male  who had not had the suggested tests.  And down the road folks like to see unbroken chains of clear hips/elbows, not just one generation.   And no, it's NEVER too late...
