Went to training the other day and my dog ( 7 months) was on a bite and my trainer picked up his whip and cracked it a few times. I would say my dogs fight/aggression level came out a little more and he started shaking the sleeve (not chewing) and growling and basically became pissed off at the trainer. Another guy who was watching asked if my dogs bite had suffered any i.e became shallow or movement on the sleeve and the helper said no.

The guys said i have nothing to worry about that i have one great dog but that we are going to work him in prey for a while since he does become defensive quickly. What are your guys thoughts?

They are correct.  A little defense in the training is good.  Toughen them up.  Also it brings out more intense bite work.  Just not too much at early age.  Good luck.
