My Mum always used to say, "If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all".
So here ends my contribution.

eh???? i wanted to know if this was a good example. no nastiness intended
I don't like am lines but this one looks quite nice, not my cup of tea but it looks neat and tidy.

Perhaps if iIexplain myself better people wont take me wrong, lol.
I am teaching my kids about the different lines and showing them examples, I don't know much about Am lines and I don't want to confuse my boys by showing them a bad example.
Is there a specific reason for them looking like this or is it purely aesthetics?

Thats a pretty good example of what you find running in circles in american show rings.Aesthetics is the only reason i can think of for the look. Show lines are not my thing ,though that looks like a contender...

That dog is not typical of American lines. For one, their heads are generally more slender and less masculine. Also, the pigment is usually better.
Check out Kaleef kennels, or Covy-Tucker Hills for more typical examples.
and http://www.covy-tuckerhill.com/
The Tucker Hill dogs are more extreme than the Kaleef dogs. Here's a link to a typical Covy-Tucker Hill male: http://www.covy-tuckerhill.com/PFFlyerBig.jpg
The bitch on the front page of the Kaleef site, Geneva, took best of group at Westminister in 2007, and best of breed in both 2007 and 2008. Due to the strong influence of Dallas (Kismet's Sight for Sore Eyes) the Kaleef dogs are generally shorter coupled and have stronger heads.

Tigermouse,
It is the American Shepherd. Not my cup of tea, but different strokes for different folks!

And I must say, when not posed in such ridiculous stacks, many American lines are pretty acceptable GSDs, & nearly all have that GSD personality.....unfortunately, some have bad nerves, & the 'collie' heads...I believe that responcible breeders are trying to correct these problems by introducing more West German lines to their breeding stock. Can't help it, I love them all, whatever lines; they're still GSDs! jh
