This pedigree database is viewed worldwide by a very broad audience of people who share a love for the German Shepherd Dog breed. People are allowed to formulate posts for topics of interest, and to make comment on these posts as well. Most of the posts and supplementary comments are made by Americans (just like me) and it is towards a handful of these people that I make my criticism.
I have noticed a serious and ongoing deterioration of the language used here on the pedigree database. I am not criticizing petty things such as the occasional "foul" word, the occasional typographical error, or a word that is occasionally used out of context. I see such minor language abuse as quite normal in everyday communication. I know that while it is important to express oneself correctly, it is more important to be understood.
I understand very well that while it is not impossible; it is difficult to type every post and reply using correct English grammar and sentence construction each time. I am not a native but I personally have no excuse to use the language poorly, for I have been stateside for just over thirty (30) years. The topic of this post is my criticism of the Pidgin English (my term-I know of no other term that is applicable) that is used repeatedly by many of the recent posters on this database. This is not an acceptable form of communication.
I realize that English is not the first language of many posters here, including me. I also realize that many posters do not reside in an English-speaking country. My criticism is not directed at these people, for all of them express themselves in English quite well in regard to the fact they seldom use the language anywhere else. They obviously make a sincere effort to be correct, and more importantly are understood.
I am quite sure these errant posters of whom I speak are Americans just like me, save for the fact that most were native-born. I realize that I could be wrong. Since we Americans seem to be the predominant users of this messageboard, let us all make an effort to post topics and commentary in a manner that does not belittle us. We are a proud people and should display this pride in everything we do.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

Bob
Yes, I agree in everything you say in your post.
The language as a whole put out by a few people using this data base, is not accepable where there are possible younger views watching it.
But besides that point it is not right anyway to curse and swear on a public forum
Plus it now seems that according to the posts put out this data base is fast becoming a venue for two or three people to make a complete mockery of the site and for what it stands for, The German Shepherd Dog
If these self same people want to swear and make threats towards each other i suggest they start up there own forum and leave this one to the G.S loving posters

The best thing is to IGNORE those whom you are addressing. Let all of us who are here to contribute and learn simply not reply to those who are making a mockery of the board and they shall soon be deleted.

I personally feel my IQ lowering when I read some of these posts. I occasionally use a goofy phrase as a joke, but never seriously. There is a time and place for that. This is an internation board for people serious about the german shepherd dog, and it shouldn't look like a bunch of 14 year olds text messaging one another. It goes hand in hand with something I've been complaining about for years, and that is the general laziness of my generation. Thank goodness I got an old fashoined upbringing. Too many people under 35 can't be bothered to do anything that isn't handed right to them, and that includes taking care with their spelling and grammar, or present themselves in a respect-worthy, educated way.

wow.
First I agree a few people are children and act like it way too often, then again the internet has never been a place for children. Its sad but true and parents should, I say should know better than to let children have unsupervised access to the internet.
So... children behave !!
American or not? Remember the different time zone's around the world. While I'm here of an evening most European's are asleep. And the Aussie's are just getting to work. Ahh yes, some people work.
Grammar? Half of all American's can't spell it or speak it on the street's. I ain't never seen such spellin amoungst so called educated peoples as us American's. The foul language speaks for it's self.
The troll's get fat only when you feed them, but most are harmless. I carry a fly swatter and salt. Those pesky little bugger's don't like salt.
As far as making a mockery of our beloved GSD site? Please, give me a break.. Love it or leave it is what I used to hear from the flag waver's all the time. It just doesn't hold sand in the real world.
I agree with you both that the message board has evolved, hell ever since I got here it's been evolving daily.
You can't control that without killing the very thing that give's it life. I wouldn't even want to try.
Overly critical, maybe even hipocritical at time's.
But what do I know.

I try
No seriously, I apologize for my grammar, dyslexia rules.
I think the bet thing is to ignore them like kerschberger said.
I for one am not going to get involved in the cat fights again.

Just my humble opinion, but some people are using the Pedigree Database to voice their opinions on politics, recipes, trash talking etc..and taking away from the Pedigree Database. One day, Oli is just going to say @@@@ this and down it goes FOREVER! It would be a shame for the German Shepherd who should be first, and the people who are trying to research lines and learn as much as possible, AND OLI, who created this with love for the breed.
Was this created for, and about German Shepherds, and the people who breed, own, train, and love and want to learn from people EVERYWHERE?
AGAIN I say... THAN YOU OLI!!
Regards!

This is the first forum where I visited that hasn't banned members for making multiple threats or posting really offensive stuff. Especially on delphi, the terms of service are pretty strictly enforced and the moderators can edit posts if someone flags it as offensive. On one of the parenting forums one person kept coming back with different user ids and they were able to ban the ip address. Not that I'm recommending that, but some people may want to consider that this board may end up going there if the personal fighting keeps up. Given recent events in the US there is going to be more scrutiny of "cyber threats" by law enforcement.

Is my English that bad ? Darn it.
I can handle reading nutz'd up English and punctuation when someone posts regardless of what ever the topic. I understand just fine. I like reading non-English posters .. you can almost hear the linguistics.
It's the repeated potty mouth and personal insults that bother me. But then again, Bob mentioned a very broad audience of people ... so behavior is to be expected.
I do apologize for my grammer and choice of spelling words for those that can't comprehend (Sorry), but I will not apologize for my position on the Off Topic (OT) political threads in defence of the US Constitution.
