Hi everyone.
I would like to start attending training seminars with my 1 year old GSD. It is clearly evident that I need to work on my handling skills and would love to build the relashonship with my dog. Im interested in all area's of dog training and would happily attend a seminar for any type of doggy venue (rally-o, tracking...etc), but I am more interested in ScH. Specifically teaching focus, control and obedience.
What training seminars have you attended?
Which was the best and why?
Which was the worst?
I look forward to your input!

that link had nothing to do with having a seminar.
what area are you in? you can find good trainers most places, depends on how far you are willing to travel. dont forget just because one person likes someone, you will find a few that dont like them.
"the only thing 2 dog trainers can agree on is what the 3rd one is doing wrong" unknown

As far as actual training goes- I am covered. I have a really good trainer that seems to be very dedicated to my dog and I....though I do have to drive 2 hours every week to see him, its worth it.
I would like to learn as much as I can from dog trainers all over the world and due to my financial situation (e.i, Im not filthy rich) I cannot fly around to different countries to learn from them. lol.
I understand that many people have different opinions, I respect that.
I simply would like to know which seminars you would like to go to, or have found beneficial and why.
I may have the opportunity to go to a Micheal Ellis seminar, has anyone ever been? How was it? (feel free to pm)
I am located in Central Alberta, however I am willing to travel.

Teaching focus, control and obedience you say? One of the best to show that in a seminar is Bernhard Flinks out of Northen germany who conducts seminars all over the world and is often seen in USA. I have never seen anyone NOT like that guy and he is good. When I say he is "good" what does that means?
It doesn't mean he is a great trainer of his own dogs, which of course he is. But, at his seminar he has a talent to transfer his knowledge and experience to other people he is trying to show and teach something. Not all great trainers have that gift, some are just great trainers but lousy teachers.
Try to seek him out for a seminar.
If that is not possible, then go to Leerburg.com and buy a DVD titles focus, grip or something like that with Bernhard Flinks and watch it.

If you can get to a Dean Calderon seminar, it will be money well spent.

Michael Ellis is the best!
Not only is he extremely talented with dogs, but also with people.

Evadic, Is there an Ellis seminar coming up in Alberta? If so, do you know who it is open to? I am in north central BC, so would be extremely interested if you have any info to share.

Yes, Micheal Ellis is indeed coming to AB.
I believe it is open to everyone, however I think the spots where he works with your dog are filled up (sorry, there is probably an easier way to phrase that, but Im not familiar with "seminar lingo")
I am not sure if the other spots are filled up yet, but I imagine they will be gone very quickly.
I will pm you more info tonight if you want.
Has anyone ever been to a Micheal Ellis seminar? What could one expect from it?
Even information on Micheal Ellis would be appreciated, I have not had much luck tracking down info.
