Shelley Strohl

I just got the recent UScA Magazine. I have to say that I laughed out loud several times reading the article Schutzhund Vernacular for the Neophyte by Yvette Woodward. Funny tongue-in-cheek stuff, right on target. I particularly enjoyed the definition offered for "Aus."

Yvette has written ALOT of really good articles.  She puts a lot of time into helping with the magazine.  I also enjoyed her other articles as well.  Claudia's interview with Dave Kroyer is interesting as well.

Just as an aside we on the magazine are always looking for Club Reports. if you have any questions about contact me.

If you have an Idea or would like to contribute Please contact Kathy or Yvette.

Good job Yvette...

Jeff

I haven't read any of the other articles as yet. That one just caught my eye. Yvette IS a very good writer, has a good feeling for the sport, including the humorous aspects. Most of us, including me, are afriad to submit to org. magazines, for much the same reason a lot of people don't post anything her on PdB.

Shame really...

Well, for a club report you don't need much, a picture or two (just needs to be of high enough resolution to be printed in the magazine.. no camera phone shots).  A few words.  Pretty much get in contact with one of us on the magazine committee and we can help you.  Really is not that big of a deal.  I personally always like to see what is going on at the various clubs and reading about my freinds in sport.

Other article do require a some more effort, but really we have a good team of people and I am relativly sure that someone on the Mag committee would be willing to at least give a person some guidance...

Back a few years ago you would have everyone bitch about the magazine.  the quickest way to get people to stop was to ask for their help. Then they would basically hide from you...A few people got involved worked hard to make things better

Kathy, Jennifer, Yvette, Claudia,  and several others put forth a great deal of work to improve the magazine. But for it to stay at the same high level it has been we are constantly needing new ideas.  Help us keep the magazine at the level it has been.

I agree- very good job Yvette!    I am, so to speak just getting my feet wet in the sport of Schutzhund, but I have found her articles stand out to be accurate, entertaining and informative.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks, guys, for your kind words!

I am living proof that it doesn't take an English major to write articles.  In fact, I am about the biggest misfit you can imagine... I'm a chemical engineer for cryin' out loud!  Can you say "alpha geek" boys and girls?  LOL  I have absolutely NO training or experience with writing, other than the techno geeky writing that I do at work to summarize my data analysis, and those papers are about as exciting as a bucket of warm spit.

Honestly, we NEED some more people to get involved with the magazine.  We've got the same handful of folks writing over and over again.  I can't imagine how many people have forgotten more about dog training than I will ever know.  It's kind of a joke that I'm publishing this swill at all.

If you have some ideas or some experience to share and you feel intimidated by putting pen to paper, just talk to me and I will interview you and write the dang thing myself.

I sent UScA a curb-side review of the the 2007 UScA Sieger show (not the dogs, but the event itself). Never heard a thing back. I don't even know if anyone even bothered to read it. I had pix to compliment it if needed as well.

Don't know anything about that, Shelley. I've only stepped up to the plate recently. Who did you send it to?

Shelly sorry to hear that, I have basically just been in charge of the club reports..

It takes 2 months from deadline to when the finished magazine make it out to distribution.. so there may have been a wierd deadline thing..

Yvette is correct  you don't  have to be some spectacular author. I had 5 different english teachers my senior year In high school.  One quit and went back to teaching at the prison.

but here is my email I also can help with writing stuff or if you have a question.

I don't remember who all I sent my report to except I know it went to the UScA office and at least 2 of the officers, incl. the president at the time. I'll try to come up with something to submit this winter when its snowing and I'm stuck indoors bored to death. Topic suggestions welcome. Maybe an interview with somebody famous?
