Early this morning before I got out of bed my boy stacking hacking and puked up a mouthful of yellowish white puke.  It reminded me of a melted milkshake (lol) and did not smell bad.  He had been sleeping all night in the bedroom floor and had an empty stomach.  He seems perfectly normal now, ate breakfast, played with a toy some....  Anybody familair with this?

My girl does that when she has a picky day and refuses to eat. The next day she'll usually puke. I'm no expert on this stuff, but I think it has to do with how fast they metabolize their food. When my dogs eat mostly raw they have a tendancy to puke like this. They digest the raw much faster then kibble. I would not worry too much unless it keeps happening or the dog is running a fever, lethargic, won't eat, losing weight, etc... Basically accompanied by other symptoms.

Probably stomach bile. Try feeding him a little first thing in the morning and later in the evening so he has something in his stomach most of the time.

My dogs will have this reaction if they are hungry, generally first thing in the morning when they wake up.  (Stomach acid/bile builds up in the absence of food). I give them a few biscuits at bedtime and a few more as soon as they get going the next day and that eliminates the problem. (Does stain carpet tho' so you have to clean it up quickly!)

It's just bile'n'stuff. My rottie would did thon a regular basis.. Generally it happened when she had gone a while between meals. It's no big deal, but sometimes it helps to give your dog several little meals throughout the day rather than one or two big ones. Yep, does stain carpet though. And isn't a friend of hardwood flooring either. Probably the acid in it.

Yes, this is called reflux bile regurgitation. No problem. Just be sure that, if your dog does this and receives any type of morning medications, you should give him a small amount of something to eat.

Lovely stuff!  Anyone else had probs "scooping" it up?  LOL, it seems to move en masse on a hard surface... kind of sliding away from whatever you're using to get it!

Thanks for the replies guys.  It does sound exactly like what you are describing.  I think he has only done it a couple times in about a year and both times were early in the morning approximately 12hrs from his supper the night before.  I guess it makes sense that it happened on saturday since because I didn't get up as early as usual (5:00am) and feed breakfast.

Thanks again
