i thought dogs were supposed to hate the mailman. spunky loves ours. maybe cuz he gives her treats. she is very friendly to people coming in the yard, which we share with 7 other apartments. everybody loves her. of course she changes if it is midnight and i tell her to guard the bike while i run in the house for a minute. then she is all business.

does your gsd or other dog(s) like the mailman? just curious. :)

My pup dose not mail man :) my other female same thing :) actually any one that try to come in in the yard without me inviting him/her :) lol once I let them its all play time :)

Most of GSD's will not like strangers that come in without invitation and he dose not know them, is a teritorial issue :)

So ticked, I use to never have issues with my dogs and mailman. Until the "Black Lab" in our old neighborhood decided they did not belong on the street, she was also an escape artisit. So while the family was at work, I would begin to look for her about the time to deliver the mail. I would bring her in our house until the whole street delivered. She taught my Rottie that they are not suppose to like them.  I have done all kinds of things to cure him, walked him muzzled on the route with them, tried to have them treat him, he will not take it from them (good boy), E collar, Heck, I even rolled him a few times when he was younger. I can win all other fights with him but this one. He went after one, one day unitl he relized it was a female mail carrier, came back down shaking his head and looking dumb founded. Now the lazy SOB has taught my other dogs to not like them either, and just looks at me with this look, it is not me, it is them, so go correct them.

Pharaoh

Pharaoh is madly in love with our FedEx driver.  She will stop at my house to kiss and hug and give him cookies.  He gets excited and happy when he hears the delivery truck.  She introduced Pharaoh to the mailman and so he likes him to but not as much as he loves Steffie.

My dogs adore delivery people - the FedEx guy comes every 2 weeks with meds for my son, and he always hands out treats.  Then there's the pizza guy, the chinese delivery guy, and the chicken delivery guy all of whom elicit drooling and whimpering from my "vicious" german shepherds!

They don't like the missionaries though....

Two Moons

My dog's never see the mail man, box is too far away, but they love the Up's man.  That truck has so much scent on it from other dog's it's like a doggie telegraph.   One dog even climb's up in the truck while he get's his package's out.   I don't like this behavoir but what the hell, it's only the Up's man.    I do like for my dog's to get to know the regular visitor's, meter reader, Up's and Fedex, nieghbor's.    Now if I could just get them to not let the Jahovah's out of the car I'd be happy.

Sorry if I offend any Jahovah's on the board, pesky bugger's.

Well, I believe it all depends on:

One: The country you live in;

Two: How the mailman (or lady M.) ) behaves.......

I am German but live in Spain, and anyone who comes to deliver anything here is just afraid of the dogs, except my partner, other breeders (and not all of them) or a very close friend from Germany, who also brings snacks along.

On the other hand, they are behind the gate (normally just one female at a time), and the mailbox is fixed to the wall outside next to the entrance gate. They can't get their heads through, but just seeing the mail "lady" reach towards our wall, must make them angry! It is our proprty she is touching . But one can tell that she is afraid anyway. And talk about UPS or similar, they are more afraid yet. In this country the people are not too used to treating dogs mostly, although it has been getting better during the last thirty years hahhaaahahhahhaaa!!! When I walk on the street with a GSD, quite a lot of people cross the street, because they are afraid. Oh well, my dogs really are nice, they know people who walk by our entrance gate and just stay quiet, however, if anyone ever has done anything that seemed threatening, they won't forgive . Especially the street cleaner, he has definitely done something with his big broom, and the female he did it to, just goes crazy trying to get to him, barking like mad. I have caught him one day behind the wall next to the gate, while his cart was already further up the street. What he was trying to do, I don't know. But here I have never seen anyone come and talk nicely to my dogs, let alone give them a snack, or some other goodie.

Well, I think dogs tell you who are nice people and who are not, that's all  ! And I normally have to agree with them. But walking on the street they would never ever do anything to anyone, they can be touched, they are not aggressive then, and on shows they are not either !!
