A friend has purchased a male puppy whose testicles are not down by now. He is 4,5 months old.
The vet says he can feel them but they have not been down yet.
Another vet said the same and that he should not worry until the dog reaches 6 months.
Myself have not seen the situation from close. This is info I got from him.
Is there anything he can do to help the testicles come down?
Hep anyone....? Thanks in advance

if they can be felt (for sure) then they are most likely through the inguenal ring, and will come down into the scrotum soon. You can help them along by massaging them - find them by deep palpation in the groin area, and stroke downward. Do that every day. May help bring them down the rest of the way, may not - but won't hurt to try. Hormone injections (Human Growth Hormone HGH) may also help, definately something to look into. I think vets have a difficult time getting it - call a bovine (cow) vet and ask them - dairy farmers use this hormone to bring milk in so the bovine vet may have better access to it than a small animal vet would.

I think the injections are the best way for your friend to go, I have used them myself on a couple of young puppies and found that if you can find the testicles then there's a very good chance of them coming down with given the shots. See if you get a vet to give you a perscription for it because it is a human medication, they use it on very young male children who's testicles have not decended yet. you probably could have it sent to your local pharmacy, I pick up my order from a Longs drug store.
Were are you located ?

Thank you all for your input.
I spoke to the vet this morning and he said that the hormone therapy (which will cause the production of testosterone) would not be suitable and he would not recommend it. He also said that the hormone treatment may cause the testicles to grow making it more difficult for them to descend, if there is any chance to do so...

IF you are sure the testicles are both down - you are able to find them both, even if they are not dropped into the scrotum yet - they will come down and shouldn't need any hormones to do it. If they were not able to be felt at all, then they are not through the ring yet - in which case hormones would be the only hope to bring them down before the ring closes. Ring closes at around 4-5 months old - if it closes and testicles are not through, nothing will bring them down. If they are not through the ring, you would not be able to find them by feel. Make sure the vet can really find both of them before getting really worried about it.

Anyone had any experience with the use of those hormones? Dosage & administration?
Is this hormone called chorionic gonatrophin?
Like the one found in brand names as Ovitrelle , Pregnyl, Profasi?
We have arranged an ultrascan test with my friend as yesterday I tried to pulpate the testicles without success...
Any past experience would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

the injection I've used in the past (once, and yes it worked) was HGH - Human Growth Hormone. Dairy cattle farmers use it to help bring milk down in young cows. I had a dwarf pup once (not my breeding) whose legs began to grow crooked, and a 6 week course of HGH injections not only straightened out his legs, but reversed his dwarfism - got his hormones going (dwarfs are often that way because of a lack of growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland) and he ended up completely healthy and normal, if a bit small at 60 lbs. The one pup with retained testicles - two shots of HGH and both came down - worked pretty quickly. I believe if I remember correctly he was 4 months old or so when he got the shots.
