Stacking Raven is like trying to stack Jello. He's a floppy dog with a lot of puppy in him. I still haven't gotten a pic good enough to put on his pedigree page, but here are a few of the better ones from our latest attempts at coordinating solo-stacking and photography.

We had fun, and the out-takes are pretty amusing. I should make a video of them. If I had someone else taking the pictures, instead of using the timer function, they probably would've come out better. We'll have the perfect position, but before the timer goes off he'll move. I really need a remote control shutter-function on that thing. [Raven's pedigree]

(this one's decent, but his hind-end wasn't into proper position and it makes him look roached))

(Caught in mid-lick! )

(It could've been good... if it hadn't been for the squirrel.)

And just one of the many out-takes...

... at least he's enjoying himself  ^_^

Hi jc, it's definitely a 2 or 3 person job but if your trying to do it alone try taking him for a good run first.

Is he bicolor? Wow! He is awesome! Very interesting markings!

He is technically a bi-color, though I refer to his markings as "extreme bicolor" due to the high-black. His sister, Ryder, looks exactly like him, nearly all black except for markings on the feet and vent.

Is Raven a longcoat?  His coat looks very similar to Bella. Takes 3 people just to give Bella her medicine, so doubt I'll be getting any good stacked photos of her. Unless y'all want to stop over tomorrow for my stacking party. Free kool-aid and peanut butter.sandwiches for everyone!! :-)

Ooh, a stacking party, I'm in!  I'll bring dogsnacks!

Raven's bit problem with stacking isn't squirming, it's going limp. He's a very floppy dog that is just as inclinded to sit down as to stack. He looks at me, gives that doggy-smile, then flops over. If I try to support his back end, the front end good *fump* and he looks at me cockeyed, head on the ground, butt-end suspended on my arm, and a big dopey grin on his face.

While cute, it's not quite what I'm going for.

Insofar as coat-type, he has an undercoat which at this point may or may not be residual puppy-fuzz, so I'm waiting to see what happens when he finally gets his adult coat in. I assume he will probably look like the black DDR on this page [link]. When he was a puppy he was halfway between a typical stock coat, and a plushie. He sheds liek a stock-coat: great big "tumbleweeds" of black dog hair that clump up under the coffee table depite regular sweeping.

Wow, so I am not the only one that goes through that stacking ordeal.    It sure can be a hard job.  I usually have someone take the picture while another gets the dog's attention.  Unless the dog is pretty good and I can throw a ball or something so he looks ahead.  You did a great job though, for being by yourself!

Superb pigment rarely seen this good, nice head and type, nice bone, stagey right now--looks like an adolescent.  His pads are thick and feet are ideal.  Has a lot of growing up to do.   I don't believe in stacking GSDs.  My view is to let them walk into a pose naturally if they are inclined, or just wait until they grow up and calm down.  Then have someone hold their leash and walk around in circles, stopping occasionally while you double handle the dog with a treat, and have a third party snap a bunch of photos.  Eventually you will get one you like.

I really like the markings on Raven. I too have one marked like that. Onyx has color between the toes and just a shading of color up the back of his legs. However, I was under the understanding that they are considered  black?

I would love to see more pictures of him as he grows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt very many "solid blacks" are actually solid black. I have 2 blacks--the male has faint markings over his eyes and the femake a few stray white hairs on her chest. Nothing that 5 minutes with a tweezers wouldn't fix but why bother unless you plan on showing them.
