Does anyone use fish antibiotics on their pets at home? I have a stray cat I picked up and don't want to put allot of $ into right now. She has little sneezing fits and I'm wondering if she has phnemonia or a kitty cold or something like that. Anyway I know people who treat their dogs with this stuff and wondered if anyone has the breakdown of how much to give the kitty and how often? If nothing else, we do have fish tanks and we can use it down the road on our guppies.

Kitty is probably 6 mos old, about 2 lbs, skinny as a rail, been wormed once, Frontlined, bathed 4 times now and on good food and plenty of water. She was dehydrated when I brought her home and I have never seen a cat with SO MANY FLEES! The water ran orange when I bathed her the first 2 times. To make matters worse she is a Persian and has mats we are trying to condition out. I finally gave up and bought shearing scissors to trim her underside with. I don't want to bath her and make her cold since she is sneezing some, she still sleeps most of the time but gets up and follows me and checks out what I am doing out in the garage. She can't come in the house until she is rid of every last flee, because we don't have them here and I don't plan to anytime soon. She has a old dog bed to sleep on and I just picked up some bedding and body flee spray for her.

Any suggestions what else I can do for this ugly little thing? She's so ugly she's almost cute but the sweetest little pur bucket, she never even scratched us when she was bathed, though she did put up a good fight to get out.

How do her eyes look? Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a thought, which I hope she doesn't have, because it costs $$$ to treat and not always successful. Especially if she is a stray and has stressed her immune system.  If you have some antibiotics on hand, you might want to give her some to be safe?

Her eye's look pretty good. Huge and bright yellow/green. Just a small amount of clear drip in the corners, no yellow/green discharge and nothing from the nose.

That is a good sign, though I believe there are two types, a wet kind and a dry kind. I was not able to save my cat with the wet kind. Hope it's just a cold. Best wishes with getting her well.

Sorry, I don't no anthing about T.C. But, do know about matted cats (had a stray Persian). !st thing. When you dry the cat with a towel, Be sure & not rub him with the towel! It causes not only more matts, but also tightens the ones alraedy there.

Wring him gently. Also be extermely cautious about cutting those Matts. It's skin can pucker underneath those matts & thier skins is so papr thin. Have you tried using corn starch on the matts? Sometimes rubbing some of that into matts & some gentle brushing helps. I don't groom cats, myself (small phobia of mine), but I do watch & learn alot from my boss' Husband.

I have several types of fish antibiotics but they are stored and rotated in the basement with our "emergency" food and survival stores (we call them "bird flu" supplies).  They can be used for dogs or people in the event medical care is not available.  We keep dog and people doses taped to the containers.  We have never used them because no emergercy has happened.  Only way to get many antibiotics.  Keep in mind that animals can have allergic reactions to antibiotics just like people and not having vet supervision is a huge risk.  Our stored antibiotics are truly for life or death situations.  If price is an issue, try just explaining the situation to your vet and ask if the fish antibiotic is OK. Many years ago, I had a vet once approve me giving cow/horse penicillin in shots from a feed store to my dog.  He figured the dose and for $8.00 I had an effective, inexpensive treatment for my dog that didn't worry me to death.  Of course, I'm from a small town where vets treat small and large animals.  Give it a try.
