We did a grid search and found him on a farm in the next community. We think the thieves found him too much to handle and dumped him. The farmer said the pup just turned up. Thanks to all for the support.

They probably saw the tattoo, and dumped him rather than be caught! My dogs are microchipped, but also tattooed as not all Rescues, shelters, Dog wardens, Vets and such scan for chips... and history has shown that while you can chuck a collar professional Dog nappers generally get rid of tattooed dogs... CONGRATS on getting the baby back!!!

Kids most likely took him and the parents told them they could not have him take him back, so they just dumped him.
