I was checking out this website and under "training services"  they claim to "Guarantee" a SchH1 title for $4,000.  Thats crazzzy!!  Can you really guarantee a dog to be titled?

I tried to copy and paste the fees but its copyrighted. So heres the link if anyone is interested in looking at his outrageous fees.

You can't guarantee just any dog to pass a SchH title. Either they have it or not.

To be fair regarding to the website you provided... I don't think the trainers there will take the time to train a dog thats not able to perform the nessassary task to pass the SchH title. I think this only mandates only the qualified dogs. Im sure the first thing they do when the dog comes for training is to test their drives and abilities.

I have heard some interesting things about this guy.

Midnight trials by invitation only.  no video or pics allowed. etc, etc, etc

Found it strange that the dogs for sale with titles are all imports, and the ones with the kennel name have marely basic obedience? And of course copycat article under schutzhund tips.

Of course you can! I've seen it done plenty of times, here some, but mostly in Germany. There are two ways to accomplish it:

  1. Take the dog's scorebook with you on your next "buying trip" to Europe. (dog optional) There are hundreds of judges in Europe and thousands of clubs. Not hard to find a judge who will sign a scorebook for a few bucks after a few drinks (say 6 pints and 8 shots) in the clubhouse.
  2. Less popular but still done: bring an "Old Friend" over to judge your own club trial. The older and crookeder the better, with "failing eyesight" at tattoo ID time. Drop in a ringer for the trial. All show dogs look a lot alike to most people. OR... If the judge is a really GOOD friend, and the trial not attended by anyone who will kick about it, don't bother with the ringer. All dogs will pass no matter what they do or don't do. Its amazing what a judge will do for a week or two of all-expenses paid vacation in a foreign country, particularly towards the end of their judging career. (remember SV mandatory retirement age)
  3. Riskier but still done:  Just slide the scorebook to the judge privately, add the dog to the Bewertinsliste before submission to the host club.

It helps to have the trial secretary in your pocket, but in Germany the results of club trials are NOT published in the SV magazine, so as long as no one not "in on it" sees the paperwork before its submitted, no one is the wiser.

Please don't send me that dog with the paper title, instructing me to "just put the 2 and the 3 on him/her" in time for the Sieger Show. Shouldn't take you but a month or two..." I separated myself from the people who can get that done without stepping on the training field over 9 years ago, shocked, disgusted and ashamed of ever having been in any way affiliated with them. In fact, I moved 3,000 miles, from the Yuba City/Marysville area to PA, to get away from the stigma of that brief association.

NO, I can't name names. Figure it out for yourselves.

BTW: $4,000. is CHEAP. I know a number of people who paid over $8500. for a fake SchH 1 and the Korug.

I was going to say too - the prices quoted on that website are quite fair in fact - all of them.  I charge more for pet training.  I understand the "guaranteed title" as money will be refunded if dog isn't titled.

I'm not sure I can title my own dog for $4,000. these days. Certainly not if I have to travel for training, trials, show rating and breed survey. .

  • Take a free puppy:Feed and maintain dog for minimum two years @ $100./mo = $2400 (if nothing goes wrong, no extra vet bills, etc.)
  • Haul dog to training only once a week, only 1 hr. each way, 120 miles r/t (very conservative in US) $25. (15 mpg/$3.00 gal, not incl tolls) for 1.5 years (minimum) $1950.
  • Helper costs and club dues (very conservative @ $250. yr dues and $20. week for helper) = $3180.
  • Trial entry for BH, SchH 1, AD & Korung (very conservative at $35., 50, 35., and 75. respectively) = $195.
  • Travel to events (again 15 mpg. and a very conservative 2 hrs./120 miles each way, figuring AD, Korung, and show are done at one event- no hotel) $96.
  • Hotel at event (AD, Show and korung NEVER held on same day...) $100.

That brings me to $7921. Remember... the puppy was FREE, and I only took it to training once a week for 1.5 years, accomplished every title and Korung the first try, at only two events, and only paid my helper $20. per session. As dog nears event-ready I tend to train at least twice a week, but didn't include that here. I ate nothing away from home. In reality, I'm sure I spend a lot more.

Sure, if you belong to a club that hosts a lot of events per year, you might not have to travel far to enter/compete, but chances are the club dues are at least double, if not triple, club has "application fee" + extra charges during "probabtion" prior to (hopefully) full member status, possibly higher mandatory attendance requirements (not just once a week) and higher per-session costs to cover costs of events... because entries hardly ever actually pay for the event, especially trials.

..and people wonder why titled dogs cost so much?If I didn't have a training field in my front yard, nearly free helper work, and tracking two blocks up the street, there is no way I could title a dog for what I charge by the month.
