Hey guys, just curious if anyone has heard anything else on Nutro Natural Choice.....I know they had a lot of problems before, dogs dying, getting sick, ect ect. Is that food safe now? or not? I use to feed it in the past, but I haven't for a while. I fed the Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice, for large breed dogs. Anyone know?

I know that the lamb and rice large breed was SUPPOSE to be back on the shelves in stores in August and is still not there. I work at a petstore and have talked to our rep several times. All that he has told me is that they were having a hard time getting the lamb meat so they decided to just put the regular lamb and rice on the shelf and to wait until they got enough meat to put the large breed back. I then asked him why other companies dont seem to have a problem with keeping the shelves stocked with the lamb flavored food. I also asked him about what people have been saying that the Nutro is making dogs sick...he quickly changed the subject and never did answer my questions. This made me a little suspicious. I also emailed the company and they still have not answered my question about this to this date. I emailed them several times. I use to feed the large breed lamb and rice and when it went off the shelf and with all the problems I switched to another brand of food. My dogs look great now.

I used to feed my older female a nutro food. A couple of months ago she simply refused to eat it and wouldn't go near the bowl (she is usually an aggressive eater). I tried to feed a small handful to another of my GSDs, and he turned his head away after smelling it (he is on Royal Canin GSD 24 Maxi and is doing well on it). So I changed to Royal Canin weight control (there is a picture of a collie on the bag). She loves it and is doing well. So far I have had very good results with all Royal Canin products.

Jyl: Had the same problem / emailed co . several times , even called and never got a rep to call me back. Last year I had the same response from this company....NADA>>>>
I told the rep. at Petsmart, that she need not try to talk her talk to me anymore.., as long as a company ignores customers, calls and emails.for two years in a row...Don't need to ever try to sell me the crap. They are just another multimarket company in business to make money and got caught with improper methods of production and probably can't get the proper permits to go forward with re=entering the market.
who knows..

YellowRose..
The one thing I did say to the rep was that IF Nutro was having issues getting lamb meat then why did other companies always have the shelves full of the lamb flavored food. I know that Nutro does buy 50% of the lamb meet in the dog food industry...well at least that is what I was told by Nutro...hehe...so I guess I cant believe everything I hear from them.
I have had my dogs on the Kirkland chicken food for a few months now and they are doing great. Even my one dog that has bad allergy issues. He is doing great on it. I also give my dogs 2 fish oil tabs and Aiko, my allergy dog, gets one tablespoon of canned pumpkin. They all also get a 1/2 teaspoon of a kelp supplement called SOURCE. They weights are great and their energy levels are very good also. I will NEVER feed Nutro again.

Thanks for sharing that you guys. I remember my dogs use to do well on Nutro in the beginning. Then later on I noticed their stools were runny....constantly......even after vet checks finding nothing to be wrong with the dogs. And then I saw a thread I think on here about Nutro and I changed the food. Their stools are fine now, coats look shiny, and they seem to be doing well on it. I know we have a tractor supply store here that has Nutro Natural Choice, Lamb and Rice....however I don't know if they have large breed or not. Preston as far as cost goes, how much more expensive is Royal Canin? I think we have that at tractor supply here, but I haven't been there in a couple of weeks so I don't know what the cost is.
