Would your dog bite a woman decoy or a child in a suit? If not why?

A post on another board got me a bit miffed as to why the owner of a dog, that wouldn't bite a woman in a suit thinks it's funny and makes jokes about it. Personally I'd be pissed and more than dissapointed in my dog. I don't care who I point at, could be my own mother, kid or husband, my dog better bite.

a good dog should know a kid from adult,,,, no matter what they are garbed in.are you training your dog to go for the suit or the perp.have you lost your mind.do you want your dog to bite some kid cuz his coat to keep him warm, looks like a bite suit. the point ,title at all cost?the command should get the dog not the gear.

A highly trained dog for police or protection better bite whoever I tell it to. A woman , a child (who should not be in a bite suit) a motionless man, a man with no sleeve or suit. Most schutzhund dog will not bite a body suit only sleeve. Have seen many sport dogs not bite suit, confuses them. Most sch dogs train with sleeve so easier to title and control during training. It is the training of civil work that creats this.My sch 3 male would never bite a man in a suit to sleeve happy but he trained that way. My czech male no title will bite anyone told. He trained that way of civil agitation.Great family dog but  when told to bite he better bite!

I think your totally missing my point. It's not the suit I want my dog going after but whoever I point to. I don't want my dog deciding who he will or wont bite, who says a 15 year old won't come at me with a knife or a woman try to beat my ass? My question is~ do you know for sure if your dog will bite a woman or young adult? Mine will, I know this becasue we have a female decoy and her 14 year old brother who catch dogs, my dog will bite with no hesitation, as he should because I asked him to. My dog isn't some lose cannon running around bitting anyone who looks funny, has a flappy jacket on or a snow suit, he goes with me everywhere and he's under control.

I want to know how many people would make funny remarks or excusses for their dog not engaging someone? I guess it comes down to truly sport or more real world training but even in sport, you may eventually run into a woman decoy. What then, you look like a doof because your dog wont engage? I'd rather my dog engage first and not need conditioning.

To me a good dog will trust "my" judgement, not his own. When I say bite, it means bite, when I don't say anything, he better not even think of using his teeth.

"the command should get the dog not the gear" Your right the command should get the dog going and nothing else. But what then when you give the command and he doesn't engage, this is my point?

Will my dog bite without a suit?...sure he has hit the hidden but we are on the field and the decoy is threatening. Would he do the same if the guy was just standing there and we were at the lake? That I don't know because I haven't tested it, I haven't even started on hitting the static decoy in suit on a field. That I will need to do as it is needed in my venue. So far my dog hasn't refussed to bite anything in any situation, which is what I want. Not saying I am some nut that is going to send him on kids in the Christmas parade but when your on the field trialing and the dog doesn't engage....why? Weak dog, bad training? I'm asking for opinions and how many people know for sure what their dogs will do. Who has even thought about it?

Well, my dogs have sure bitten a woman helper. Why the heck not? If the helper is acting like a helper, why should the dog care?

4pack,

What did the owner of the dog say about why it would not bite?     It's either trained or it's not.

Your talking more personal protection I think, and that just take's training as well.

I would be disapointed too if I thought I had my dog trained to do something and it decided not too on it's own.

That's not saying that I don't expect the dog to make a decision on it's own when I'm not around.

It boils down to different training.

Moon's.

i have worked my dogs on women helpers and let my older expierenced dogs work on new kid helpers, as young as 12 or so.  granted they are wearing a sleeve.   hell ive even had my 15 year old nephew take some bites off of Dar.  he said it was a lot different than taking bites off my 8 year old bitch Trinity.

in this day and age and depending on where you live,  i would say if a dog is truly trained for personal protection, than yes, it should alert, attack, etc.  the threat and not the person.

gangs have kids how old doing the dirty work?   while the majority of violent crimes are commited by males, there are still women in prison for robbery, murder, etc.

once again,  alert on the threat and not the person behind the threat.

Owner said the dog didn't take the decoy seriously...After repeated harder attacks on handler dog didn't engage. I don't understand why or how a dog  wouldn't take their handler getting slapped around serious enough? Another person said a girlfriend put on a suit and did an attck on handler with no response from dog. This isn't something I would joke about or blow off.
