When the result are between 7 and 10ng/ml you start inseminating or breeding.  It shows that the ovulation has occur and that the eggs are maturing or mature.

It worked twice with my female who is pregnant now.  We took blood on friday and her progesterone level was 9.80/ng.  We insiminated on saturday and on sunday and we are now wating for those little ones!!

We are so excited cause the Father is GV Mar Haven's and The Beat Goes On...a wonderful dog with a supeb temperament and conformation..

Good luck to you..

Julie

Bare in mind that unless you get the result back the same day, the reading is yesterday's.

You can only estimate what 24 hours does.

Some say 4-10 is ovulation; others say right at 5.

The textbook ideal is to breed 2 days after 5. If you get the result after 24 hours, one day after you get the result of 5.

One advice is : "19 ng/l breed today", which  means same day result. If yesterday's reading was 19, today might be too late, or just chancy.

Natural and fresh insemination: day of LH surge, day1  to day 6, same as 2 days before ovulation to 4 days after.

Chilled semen AI: day 3 to 6  after LH surge

Frozen semen: day 4 to 6 after LH surge.

Some say that LH surge sometimes does not mean ovulation in about 2 days. Stress can delay ovulation, some say, but not everyone agrees.

My vet told me me they look for a reading between 10 and 14. Once they get a reading in that range you have a 3 day window to inseminate. This is for a fresh AI.

After reading close to a dozen articles, I think there are still two points of contention among scientists.

1. How frequently does ovulation not happen about two days after 2 ng/l progesterone, LH surge? Some say often stress can cause delay in ovulation. A bitch cannot un-ovulate, so it is better to wait until the bitch has actually, not just expected to have, ovulated.

2. Day 7 after LH surge or day 5 after ovulation. Some say day 7 after LH surge is no longer within peak fertility, some say day 7 is the last day of peak fertility. Nobody argues about day 6 after LH surge or day 4 after ovulation being within peak fertility.

I have 1 bitch - prog test day 13 next day result = 2ng.

Tested day 19 next day result = 10ng, mated day 22 result was 8 male puppies a very good result.

Another bitch day 12 result was 1ng / day 14 result = 11ng. She was staying at the stud kennel and they did not try mate her instead retested  on day 16 result = 30ng. As this took place at a well known kennel I was very disappionted with the resulting 2 puppies, had she been mated on day 14 it could have been a better result. I will watch this bitch much closer next time and prog test myself as she has only a few days of fertility post LH surge.
