I acquired a female puppy in Octoebr 2004, that Ive been told is part of a study of several hundred German Shepherds puppies (Germany), which were ultra sounded between 4-6 weeks old. Ive been informed that hip x-rays are to be completed at 12 months of age and sent back to Germany for further study.
Does anyone have additional information regarding this study? How will it compare to the PennHip test, other then being administered much earlier?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me at shepherds@vonfabing.com or 1-866-283-5197.
Sincerely,

Melody, Here is some information given to me from Dietmar regarding this study. Hope it helps!
The VA Ernie pupps were at the University in Gießen and had an ultrasound, when they were 4 wweeks old, from their hipps! Like the doctors do with little babys!
They will ultrasound 1500 pups and if possible get the most exrayed when they are 1 year old. The x-ray will be free if it will be done in Gießen at there place!
They want to find out ,if they can make a forecast concerning the hipps when they do an ultrasound with 4-5 weeks of age!
If the puppy gets x-rayed somewhere else, they would appriciate, if the could get a copy of the x-ray for there studies!

I am curious about this. A puppy does not even have a fully caclified pelvis or hip sockets until 12-14 weeks old, so what can an ulrtasound at 4-6 weeks show? It would be great if it turns out to be helpful!
