Last year about this time my dog developed really dry skin and it started to fall off like dandruf. I noticed him itching again this past week and now I see a spot on his head that is snowing. It's a quarter size patch of dander flaking off in large chunks. This time last year this happened on his eye lids and face. I don't want it to get that out of control again, though he was treated for yeast last time, right now his ears are clean inside but the skin inside is flaking off at close inspection. Is this seasonal allergies or...? Last year it was a long drawn out 2 trips to the vet deal. He ended up with a staph issue after the yeast cleared up. Any ideas what it could be or how to deal from anyone with similar issues? His skin has been fine all year since we cleared it up last winter.

One of my girls gets a similar thing on the base of her tail, we use the following concoction...

40 ml of a base oil, almond oil is good,

5 drops of lavender oil,

5 drops of tea tree oil,

5 drops of chamomile oil,

and use a pump spray to apply then brush in.

Give some salmon oil as a supplement, and an egg once a week.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Tracie.

4pack,

I have a dog with seasonal allergies and it is a pain.

Yesterday the poor guy was just itching itching itching, even with Benadryl in him.  I forgot that I had purchased some Zymox Medicated rinse.  I use the Zymox product with Hydrocortisone for his ears, his poor ears get so itchy he makes them bleed with the Hydrocortisone in the drop it helps calm the itching in the ears.  So I remembered the Medicated rinse, I put it on rubbed it in good gave him a rinse and he stopped most of his itching, licking and chewing.  He so smell like a foo-foo dog but I don't care he isn't itching.

He gets the dry scaly skin and skin infection unusally staph from the itching.  So I hope that this will calm his skin down.

here is the link to where I purchase Zymox productssearch.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch

Well I do have a bottle of resiCHLOR left that they gave me last year. All it says is it's a leave in conditioner and is a antimicrobial to be used in cases where chlorhexadine may be of bennefit. What is that and why and how does it work? Can't I just rub come cortisone cream on him then?

4pack,

Corisone cream will help the dog stop itching.   But if there has been enough itching then the skin has become susptable to bacterial or fungal infection.  Once that starts then there is more itching because the skin is irritated and the cycle really gets going.

Oral Antibioitcs work from the inside out, I am trying the rinse to help the skin from the outside.

Emu oil found in spray or creme works wonders when rubbed into dry skin, also bathing with Euca-Leuca- Lime is great also. Anti microbial, anti fungal and antibacterial. Have his thyroids been checked? Thats the first thing my vet does on the clients is run a thyroid panel to try to discover the underlying cause. Also he takes them off of any food with corn...... Good luck :)

Nope, no corn. His diet is pretty good. I feed Orijen and raw chicken, topped with salmon oil. Thank you for the items so far, will look those up online today.
