To become a Pakwerker or Helper, to officiate in Trials in the USA, Does the Helper to be have to take a series of practical tests on the field and also  written tests to Qualify as an official hepler,

Or can anyone just put on the Suit etc and do work in trials and Competitions

Steve, the D.V.G.'s U.S.A. group has a helper certification programme for Class1, Class 2, and Class 3 helpers. For a description of the required preliminary qualifications plus the steps for certification, please go to http://www.dvgamerica.com and examine "Trial Helper Certification Program" on the left-hand side of the page. Since V.D.H. is the ruling group over German dogsport, this essentially serves as a good reference for qualifications as well as a list of certified helpers.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

For a helper to work a trial under Schutzhund USA, a person wishing to be a helper must get a helper book from the USA office where their information such as trials worked, number of dogs worked, and Judges comments on work can be written down. They then must attend a helper seminar overseen by a Teaching Helper. They then have the entry level rating and can work a club trial. From there, they have to work a certain number of dogs and events and attend seminars and helper colleges and such to increase their rating over time to work larger and larger events. Their ratings then increase with their experience.

Hi Bob & Nate

Good, very much the same as over here which is good to here, a lot of Dogs can be injured by a bad Helper, but the Guys have to work  hard for the honour of working a trial or Competition

I was interested to know how it went on in the USA

Steve
