I love the analogy of the dominant dog, and the arrogance of a star athlete. The related articles are nice reads as well.

Nice article, and good explanation of what happens with the inverse, handler-soft dogs. What the author fails to do, as usually happens in a dominance related topic, is explain his approach for "behavioral sleight-of-hand" or how to "establish a bond with the stronger more dominant dog without getting into a battle of wills." There is plenty of advice to be found of what NOT to do (i.e., fight dominance with dominance), but if alternatives aren't proposed, how can the described handlers be expected to know better?
With so little insight to be found on the topic, I've found my personal approach with dominant types, but my techniques aren't refined and my experience limited. There's far too few truly dominant dogs to practice with, and I'm confident to say that many dogs described as dominant, really aren't so dominant at all.
This thread would be a great place to discuss -- what effective methods can we use to motivate the best performance from a dominant type dog?

Or enroll in the school? That's OK, I'll stick to my "unconventional" beliefs and practices :-)
