Of those of you who have put frozen semen away -
What were the average # of breedings per collection from let's say a 2 yr old male?
and then let's say a 7 yr old male?
Only looking for averages....

2 year old, about 6 or 7 straws. Most ship 2 straws for a breeding. You get about 3 breedings per collection.

I agree with Dog1, depends on the breed as well though (I am assuming you are asking about GSDs). 6 or 7 straws seems average. My male ACD at 2.5 produced 26 straws in one collection this past February. He must have been pretty frustrated :-p

K9sar06,
I sent you a PM some time ago, was wondering if you ever got it.

My 10 year old male produces 5 straws consistantly per collection - and it hasn't changed since I started having him collected for freezing 3 years ago. I thought that was pretty low. My vet says it is "average for his age". I have heard of younger dogs producing 10-30 straws per collection so I thought that was normal. Yes, 2 straws per breeding are used.

On my 7 yr old male I was getting 3 breedings per each collection - wondered if a younger male would produce more or if 3 was a basic average.
I would love to get 10+ breedings per each collection....would save me a lot of money!
I too wish Europe would do frozen semen....a lot of very nice dogs that I would love see produce here.
