The 2 males have been scrappier than normal the last few days which I didn't think much of until the 4 yr old male did some extra sniffing around today. Made me wonder if a female can come into heat as early as 5 1/2 months? Bella will be 6 months on the 28th. I didn't think I had to worry about her first heat for a few months yet.

worry.

Ditto, worry. I have had females come into their first season as young as 4 months and as old as 15 months.

Could it explain one of the males trying to mount the other one today? I'll have to start making plans to separate them sooner than I expected. Tough to even imagine a puppy having puppies.

If one male is trying to mount the other then he is say he is alpha and he gets her (pack order) and yes they can come into heat that early every dog is different, some that early some not until they are after 1

My girlie's first season was at 7 months, so it is possible that your girlie could be coming into season soon.

i would keep an eye on the 2 boys. sometimes males will get a little more than "scrappy" when a female in heat is around.

While it is not unheard of, none of my girls ever came into heat that early. I would not leave her unattended with any male right now.
What might also have happened is that Bella developed a bit of juvenile vaginitis, which is more common than most people think.
Here is a quote from an older reproduction book I have at home: Vaginitis is often seen in pre-pubertal bitch puppies. A bit of sticky, creamy discharge may be seen around the vulva. In most cases, the problem is self-limiting and will disappear with the first estrous cycle. Treatment with antibiotics may be needed in more severe cases.
I have seen that discharge at a few of my female puppies (up to a year of age). Others did not have any discharge but our male sniffed them thoroughly anyway.

My female came in at 5 months. I would seperate her and watch her.
