I know i said that i wouldnt post on here, unless i really needed to ask a sensible question. Well here is a question i want to ask.
I have been researching on the Internet, and i know that Black GSD's, are permitted in the show ring in the UK. my question to you is, that are Black GSD's permitted in the show ring in Germany? And if so have any ever been exhibited in the German Sieger?
Thank you

Hamza,
just stop and think for a minute! Why would they not be permitted? Black is a recognized color as per breed standard. And black GSDs have been shown (especially within the past few years), just go and check. They do not place in the first ring and therefore must have eluded you. There is more to our breed than just the dogs in the first ring of the Sieger Show.
Have a good day!

and there have been many others in the sieger competition and also sables over the years

Oh ok. I know that sables have been in there. Do you have links to Black GSD's that have been in the Sieger more recently, thanks

You need to get the photo Urma books! There are always a few black dogs in the sieger, they are towards the end of the line up as they are generally working lines and do not have the type or structure the judges are looking for, but several do achieve V rating. Just skimming quickly through the 2008 book, there seem to be just 2 in the adult male class V110 *Woody vom Dreisbachtal, SG2 *Magic vom Kraichgauer Wald (SG1 in 2007), none in females (unless there are any with no photos as I did not read all the critiques...) As opposed to sables, I have not seen any blacks in really good positions in the German sieger, but in our sieger show in Ecuador a black pup (actually from showlines) won first place in 9-12 month category, the same dog went on to win in 12-18 months in the next show with a different judge, and a black half brother of his took second place in 4-6 months, their (black) mother has also achieved good show results. I believe that in the 2009 German Sieger a breeder presented a black kennel group, though I do not have any details on this personally.
In 2007 the highest place black dog was V71 Paco vom Haus Vortkamp.

Same basic answer is why there are so few Sable or black Shepherds in the GSDCA Selects... the lines which are being shown predominately for conformation ring are black and tan or black and red... It's even more divided in the European lines where there's a strong distintion between SHOW and WORKING lines. The working lines are almost all sable... especially dark or black sables, and/or blacks... while the Show (Conformation) lines are Black and Red.
Rare breedings are done between them, and if you've watched conversations on this board you know that some believe that you'd be producing a basic Mutt if you blend the two lines. Others disagree and feel that the breed as a whole would benefit if the working people paid more attention to type, and the conformation people paid more attention to working abilities.. You'll find a number of "V" rated blacks and/or sables... apparently some have even gotten it at the Seiger shows... However most owners of blacks choose not to pay the expense and effort of showing a dog that they know before hand the chosen judges will dismiss because of their color, as well as differences in type??
