Hi everyone, i have a question for you all. I live in a country where ticks and fleas are a major concern. I usely apply Frontline spot on on my girl every month. The only problem is that some of my friends have been telling me that Fipronil can have long term effects. Is this true? If it is, then is there a natural remedy for fleas and ticks?

I use it :) there is too much dear tick in my area and frontline is the only thing that works. Is it good or bad? hmmm some thing is good some thing is bad, me just stand in the middle, I need it because I know the area I live in and there is a lot of sh*t and I want my dog protected.

Same here. The area where i live is infested with deer ticks. So i guess frontline is better than lyme disease and flea allergies. What does everybody else think?

My dogs don't have flea allergies but I am in the woods training once a week and they need to be protected. I alternate between Frontline & Advantix once a month, plus I spray the dogs prior to leaving the vehicle with a topical flea/tick spray. I've been spraying my dogs down with a fine water mist to wet them before working to help prevent over heating, I repeat this in the search area as needed to keep them cool & I think it has helped keep ticks off. :o) I also vaccinated all my dogs with the Lyme shot & repeat every year with their booster shots.

The lyme vaccination isnt available here so i guess frontline is the only thing protecting my girl from ticks and fleas. So does frontline have long lasting harmful effects? My workingline male was frontlined monthly and died at the age of 14...but seem people say that fipronil can have long lasting effects on the liver...

Same here Teri that is pretty much what I am doing, plus I am in the woods every day with my dog, so we need to be extra safe, just this year alone I found like 5-7 ticks on my self.

Have you thought about testing your dogs and/or yourself??? We just tested and found several dogs on my SAR team were pos. for RMSF!!!!!!!! They had to be treated with Doxy!!!!! I had my blood pulled and tested, I was clean. Of my 8 dogs at the time, only one came back pos. :o( His count was low so we caught it at a good time. :o) I will run their titers every year for Lyme & RMSF. We drew the blood ourselves & submitted it to a state lab for much cheaper than had we gone through out Vets. Believe it or not about 50% of the dogs tested were pos. for RMSF!!!!!!

Oh and believe it or not more of the GSD's were pos. and seem to be more suceptable for it than the other breeds tested. Well at least that was true with the dogs tested. Out of my 8 dogs, 2 at the time were GSD's ( I of which was new & not in the woods much), luckily neither of my GSD's had it but my older male beagle did, he is in the woods more than any of my other dogs since he is older, certified and traveled out of state on searches more than the others. :o( At least we didn't bring it home to the others.

Everything has some kind of effect even the air you breath you have to ask yourself a question what is going to get you first :) and protect yourself against that, it just happens that lime is a real treath in my area so yeah frontline is a must.
