MVF

May I be a picky professor for a moment?

The expression prelim is on my mind.   It is an abbreviation for preliminary, as in prelimary Xray (usually before an OFA determination can be made, but sometimes before the a-stamp).

Some people have created the incorrect but interesting expression prelimb -- I suppose because they are combining preliminary Xray with canine limb.  (The Xray is of a joint, so it doesn't work anyway.)  Some then spell it pre limb.

The correct expression is preliminary Xray, or, if you must, prelim.

Of course, you can spell it anyway you want -- I just thought you might like to be reminded of the correct spelling.

I am home ill and needed something to do with myself.  Forgive the nitpicking, please.

yes do get well soon.  you are certainly not alone in getting vexed over misunderstandings of language & spelling.  i know a breeder who refuses to sell to anyone who doesn't know how to use spell check.  his stance is "if you're not smart enough to figure out spell check you're certainly not smart enough for my dogs'  another friend's pet peeve is - irregardless - drives her nuts  - prelimb funny

I work in an enviornment where new people are constantly being introduced to their new work space. They are told to go to 'orientation'. What drives me crazy, is when they ask a question of you, prefaced by, "Excuse me, but I'm being orientated....". I want to suggest they first check which language they are speaking, but I usually put on my best curious puppy, twisted head look, and ask, "Does that mean you're oriental? Or oriented?" Which, of course, makes them look at me as if I am an idiot. Please feel better soon, Michael. jh
