I spent the day at the movies with my kids and then some, watching, Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It was a fun parody full of dogs, and the GSD becomes the reluctant hero! If you just want to laugh and listen to some upbeat tempos, take the kids.

Also, the trailer for the show featured, BOLT, an animation film featuring a pup who looks just like a White GSD with a black lightning bolt on his side. And this pup has some kind of brawn and an attitude. Really! Not your cuddly-wuddly expectations.

I think Hollywood knows the GSD is number 3.

Oh, and interesting to note, the villian in the movie I saw today was a Dobie, the king of the Mexican dog fighting pits.

since i have a teenager, i have to wait to see it on dvd :) however, i just hope that it doesn't make the gsd the "flavor of the month" dogwise. jack russels, dalmations, etc become "popular" and the shelters end up overwhelmed a few months later. in my area, a gazillion people have chihuahuas (one friend has 2;her husband likes my gsd-lol).

I saw the previews for both those movies at the same time, leaned over to my friend, and whispered, "so, which will be worse this christmas, the run on white gsds or the run on chihuahuas?"

They both do look very cute, though. I'm sure I'll be taking my kids to see them.

I wonder if there was any spike in the numbers after that recent Will Smith movie, "I am Legend"?

At least the GSD is in the role of "good dog"! It's got to mean something to insurance companies, the one's that like to exclude certain breeds as acceptable risks when selling homeowners insurance.

Yeah, I'm sure there was-I watched that movie twice in the cinemas and bought the DVD simply becasue of the GSD, but the movie made al ot of money in America and Internationally so I think it would lead a lot of people into buying a german shepherd especially as the portrayal was so favourable!

Unlike, the movie Underdog were there are three GSD's playing the 'baddies'

Mike Alexander was scouring the country a couple years ago looking for the cast. He was interesting to talk to. They had finished 'Eight Below" and the movie was such a success Disney wanted a follown on animal type movie.

They were looking for multiple German Shepherds to be the same 'character". Health was a big concern as they planned to train, work, keep and retire the dogs. I had a group of 3 in the mix, but the director picked a dog he liked in Europe and they had to find others to match that dog.
