Just curious as to what the best/cheapest way for disinfecting concrete and the bottom of my dog's crate. It has one of those plastic pieces that the dog lays on like you would get at petsmart.

I use peroxide on everything. Not harmful to animals or the environment.

1 part household bleach (around a 5 or 6 % concentration in the bleach) to 9 or 10 parts water up to a 2/10 ration will be sufficient for most normal uses. Should be made fresh when to be used as otherwise it looses its' disinfection capability. Leave on surfaces to be disinfected at least 10 minutes and rinse well. Never use bleach mixtures on metal because it corrodes the metal. There are also plenty of commercial preparations that can be used. Look for one that is EPA approved if you reside in the USA.

If I were going to use bleach I would use a 2 to1 mixture myself. 1 bleach, 2 water. And definately rinse well and dry before bringing animal's back to the kennel. The fume's can be toxic. I would only use it in extreme situation's.
There are several commercial product's the name's of which I can't remember, but I used them a lot with incubator's and brooder's for poultry in the past. They kill everything.
Depend's on what your trying to get rid of.

nothing specific just want these spaces to be clean and disinfected everytime he gets a bath. Im borderline OCD when it comes to order and cleanliness. I blame the Military lol.

Another interesting question. My girl's kennel is made out of wood? What type of disinfectant should i use on wood?

by tigermouse on 05 October 2008 - 17:10
I use trigene not the cheapest of solutions but very effective esp on wood
all the best

Without any specific problem I would avoid chemical's all together...
Nothing wrong with a good scrubbing with plain old soap and water. I would prefer dish detergent as it cut's grease and rinse's clean.
I stiff bristle floor brush would be handy to get deep into the concrete pore's and a good pressure rinse.

Degrease with DAWN diswashing liquid, and use Virkon.

I bleach once a month with household clorox two capfuls of clorox to a gallon of water ..rinse well and dry .
on Indoor kennels I like Peroxide only
Most of the days I clean with high pressure wash and a tiny bit of Odo Ban , rinse and it smells great. It also keeps bug gone and can be put on ant hills to rid the fire ants.
I carry a bottle in my truck for any cleaning needed in bed or kennels in back of truck . Also can clean your patios with Odo ban and put in wash of dirty shoes , etc.
Odo ban is bought at Sam's Wholesale., in a gallon that makes many gallons more and gives you a small bottle to use as a squirt bottle.
