My friend has a very alpha/aggressive female especially when breeding. The female wants to mount the male, make him chase her and basically the rougher the better for her. We tried muzzling & holding her and just letting him breed her with no success...We also tried fresh semen AI's with no success; the only thing left that I know of is surgical insemination. Has anyone had a female like this? Any suggestions?
Forgot to mention the female has had 2 litters from natural ties only with much younger males.

Sounds like the aggressiveness and fertility issues may not be related.  How old is this dog?  She might be shutting down early.  Her progesterone may not stay high enough to keep her in whelp also, so if you do get her bred, you might keep taking progesterone levels to make sure they stay high enough. If they don't, you can give her progeterone therapy according to my vet (I haven't done it, elected not to do so.).  Have you done vaginal cultures and such to see if she has an issue there?  If you read Dr. Ian Billinghurst, one of the things he says that causes infertility in bitches is not breeding them every cycle.  Skipped cycles can lead to infertility.  That is against current political correctness, and I don't at this time have enough anecdotal experience to know myself if this is true.  I know that many bitches who are bred two times in a row will often not concieve one of those times, giving her body a rest whether it is planned or not.   Veronica

I have had more than one female like the bitch you describe. Sometimes, alpha bitches will only allow breeding with alpha males. If she has bred naturally on 2 other occasions, let it happen again. Try another stud dog. Then, try another stud dog. Find a stud dog that doesn't take "no" for an answer. I don't like the idea of opening her up when she has bred naturally on other occasions. Find a dog she will accept. I've never liked alpha bitches in a breeding program, hence, your problem pops up. I wish you luck, Von Leistung

My friend AI's with great success runs vaginal slides and only breeds once. I tried it with a vet with poor results. I would try slowing her down chemically if possible and if you feel comfortable with that.

That is what I was going to say.  Give her a "drink".  Chemically.  You know the routine guys,  dinner, a movie and a couple of drinks.  Right!!!   Sometimes a small meal takes the edge off too.  But really just one or the other, drinks or dinner for the dog, not both.
