I have a "friend" who keeps telling me that Bella is cow hocked and a pinhead, meaning she thinks her head is too small. Argueing with this woman is pointless so I finally told her the other day to PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT BELLA IS COW HOCKED AND CALLING HER A PINHEAD!!! Hopefully she will take the hint and never come back.

Anyone else care to share a few comments from the clueless?

Oh yes, first, let me set the situation up:

I was walking my workingline bitch (black sable color) and so many people came up and asked/stated the following:

1. What breed is it?
My Response: A German Shepherd

2. I hope you didn't pay too much, because that dog is obviously a mixed breed.
My Response: I wish I would've taken you with me when I bought her, you are so wise, I could learn a lot from you!

3. That's not a German Shepherd, my sister has one, and it is tan and black.
My Response: Yes, and god knows all Germans are Blonde Haired, and Blue Eyes, right?

Sometimes it was just too much for me, in which case I just turned my girl around and went the other way.

I donated a sable puppy from a litter once to a Search and Rescue group (trying to do a generous thing!)  Well, come to find out the guy was a drunk and called me one day and said to come and get the dog back because it would not work independantly!  I went to get the dog at 8 months of age this, normally medium sized bitch, weighed 120lbs!  She was at least 50lbs over weight and infested with fleas!  When I asked the guy about how the dog was kept and vet records he freaked and started screaming in his driveway that she was not a full bred shepherd and someone had lied to me!  Now, mind you this guy saw the litter and the mother and HE PICKED this puppy himself!!  I told him I had imported the mother as a puppy and had her LOSH Stamboom pedigree.  Then he said that this dog would not work independantly and would not leave his wifes side!  Well what Search and rescue dog can work being sooooo over weight?????????????????

This guy was a total idiot and it took nearly a year to take that much weight off the little girl safely!

It amazes me how ignorant people are to the German Shepherd breed. I have had my fair share of:

"Thats not a real german shepherd"

"Is that a wolf?"

"He looks mean" (because of his color)

"If you wanna pay that much for a dog it better cook and clean" (I hate this one)

I rescued a female gsd, hand shy due to her abuse, I have a stable rottie. Go to soccer game to watch kids. Sit all the way out in bumb F nowhere by myself with one dog on each side of me. Mother walks her 2 little ones out to me one with Ice cream cone dripping on face and hands, other child eating a hot dog , The kids had to be between 3 and 5 years of age. She walks all the way around the Rottie (who is the stable one) and tells them to pet the GSD. I waited until they got close enough and went off on the MOM. I told her she was nuts, you did not ask if safe to pet, the gsd is going to take the Ice Cream and the Hot dog in one fell swoop, then you are going to scream when she goes for the Ice Cream on your childs face. You also picked the wrong dog for your kids to pet, what made you think the GSd is safe and not the Rottie, well you have it backwards. Lady you better get educated and quick about allowing your kids to play with strangers, dogs or people,  Her comment to me was, we had a German Shepherd when I was young and I know they like children. I lost it and told her "yea and pedifles are people to".

(I had just gotten her and new the history of abuse, but I had no clue how she would react around small kids or food)

With my current dog I have heard on a number of occasions:  "Gosh what a good looking malinois".

I particularly am annoyed when people look at my black gsd and comment what a nice lab mix!
