I'm so scared! I love her to death, and I'm so worried something might happen to her in the process?? I just caught her and my male dog stuck together which I read usually leads to pregnancy. They're both mini doxies! I thought she was completely done with her cycle. Done bleeding, been about 4 weeks and bam! There they were...after me keeping them apart all this time too...I just don't want her to die or be hurt badly. I'm looking for knowledge and possibly some comfort...if I don't get super slammed for her getting pregnant in the first place, that is...any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

If it just happened, your vet can draw blood to see if she's actually cycled, and where she is in her heat.  Sounds like she may have had a "split cycle" if it has truly been 4 weeks since she was bleeding.  I'd let your vet advise you, but if it's been a couple days or so the bloodwork by the vet may not be of any help.    If she does take and get pregnant, she will probably be fine, and you'll just have to take good care of her and help her raise her family.

Ok I can do that...love her little fluffy butt LOL I call her my hairy child....I'll be studying up on everything I can digest about pregnancy, labor and birth of dachshunds too. Thanks for you advice! :)

What you should do is take her to the nearest German Shepherd Dog Rescue and release her to them for adoption.

Then, never, ever, ever own another dog again....

Gee, was I just a meany?

It's generally called a split season. I had a Beauceron bitch who was prone to it. Just as you describe, they totally finish their usual heat cycle and then a few weeks later will have a totally "silent" heat.

I'd just get her spayed, talk to your vet.

And if they are Dachshunds, why are you posting this on the German Shepherd Board?
