Im starting to think about breeding myself, and wonder what people think is needed for bringing up puppies and how much external stimulus they get.  When I got most of my dogs I was lucky and was able to see them every week from the start and from quite young they were out adventuring on a secure clean lawn, and exposed to many sounds such as the hoover.

However I've heard of people keeping puppies tucked away till they go to their new homes, only having been seen by their new owners say once at about 6 weeks or older and that they dont get to play on the lawn, just in their kennel and run where it is deemed safer.

So what do you guy's do, or what did you get offered when finding and waiting for your puppy(ies).

beepy,

At six week's puppy's will play with toy's a little, they know quickly when your bringing food, and they will try out their leg's and try running.

By eight week's they are all over the place and love to be handled and played with.   I let them out to run around the yard and explore.  They will play with tug's and ball's and I like to have other people handle them as much as I can.  Alway's under supervision.

My 10X10 kennel's are big enough but offer nothing new, and they really enjoy exploring.  Also I don't want them to only know me, there's alway's someone who want's to see the puppy's and I take advantage of that whenever I can.   As long as they are not really young children.

I think none of this is actually required until the puppy's new owner take's over but I do it anyway.  Just because I love it.

I recommend new puppy owner's do all this and more.   Interaction, socializing, exposure to sound's and exploring new place's.  It's all good.

Brent.

P.S.

I handle my puppy's ever day from birth till they are gone.   I couldn't not see them everyday.   It's a gift to be enjoyed.

There is no "exact" what is required. When I bred Boss to Jazena..I made a make shift den for her as I knew she needed it.It was outside.I set up some obstacles etc etc once the pups came out of the den.Not all came out at first.Jazena was by their side and would show them things...But of course she would go back and check to the rest.I never want to interfere in the beginnning. My feelings are that the pups need to be with their mom and as each individual ventures out..she can teach them if there is enough natural space.Hard to explain.
