I know the positioning is off. I can't seem to find a vet around here who takes good pics.
Dog was 11 months old
Thank you,
Melissa

Melissa,
Actually the positioning isn't bad on these. They are slightly off but NOT bad at all!! I would say good radiographs and I think good hips, but I will let the others who are more experienced in reading the x-ray tell you. I am only good at taking the radiographs!

positioning isn't bad, but the hips are pretty lax - should be much tighter in the sockets. I would guess Borderline (retake in 6 months) or Fair.

Hard to see clearly, but to me it would seem that the Right hip (left in the picture) looks a little shallow.

Is the positioning pretty good? I just thought his back could be straighter and it looks to me like one leg is straighter then the other. Just going by what I've seen on others' x-rays.

Positioning is good.
See, I told you I didn't know anything about reading the xrays, only taking them! I also heard you get a better rating from OFA if you submit in the first week of the month.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but the dog in question was 10.5 months old when the xray was taken. If I remember correctly.
Thank you again

Yes, it does make a difference when one considers laxity vs. age. Puppies have much more joint laxity than do adults-it's neccessary for growth. That is also why one must be careful raising a puppy, as this pronounced laxity can allow an injury to occur.
I see good socket and femoral ball formation, and I do agree that the joint is a bit lax. I presume this puppy was sedated? Before I would submit a true evaluation radiograph I would of course allow the puppy to mature, and make sure he has plenty of exercise the day of the examination, and try to make the radiograph in the afternoon with minimal sedation.
I think given time and proper care that these hips will pass.
Good Luck!

The paper says he was sedated with Isoflurane(sp?)
Unfortunately he will be going to a department before he has matured, I just want to make sure he has a long working life ahead of him.
Thank you all for your input
