There's a lot of kennels that produce nice protection dogs.  What part of the US are you in?  There's some breeders on the PDB that have some very nice dogs you may want to consider.  A large kennel operation doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a better pup.  Some of the smaller kennels may better serve you.

I live about 35 miles south of Atlanta, GA. and I have owned 4 dogs (2 males and 2 females) from leerburg kennels in the past. These dogs were used for search and rescue for 10 years, but I am looking for dogs in another direction at this point.

I have a 16 month old female and 12 week old female from a small breeder in Ocala, Florida.  She has German import working lines.  I am more than thrilled with my two girls.  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/562477.html  This is the baby, Carney, you can check out her siblings & give Jill a call if interested.  Jill 352-840-3184.  Not only does she have very nice dogs, she has been great to deal with making the whole experience worth every penny.

Chios von der Tetiaroa -- sable male, Working quality Additional Picture/Pedigree:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/562472.html C-Litter 09.05.08 Chios1.jpg (87K, 640 x 480)    C-Litter 09.04.08 Chios7.jpg (84K, 640 x 480)  Chios ("Key-oss") is a very interesting male in that he has all the drive and shows all the potential to work in Schutzhund, police, sar, agility (although he is a heavy boned and big boy), obedience, tracking, etc, but he is not balls to the walls crazy 24/7.  When just hanging in the house with you alone, he appears to be laid back and easy going, happy laying by your feet taking a nap.  Yet you get up and ask something of him, and he is there 110%.  He has more desire to please than any of the other puppies and is super handler oriented.  He is actually one of the tuffer boys, yet is handler sensitive (due to his high desire to please) and comes off looking like a bit of a momma's boy.  He has tons of food drive (tries chewing your pocket off if you have or had food in it), good prey and play (toy) drive (most always has something in his mouth, trotting around, proud as can be), and unbelievable pack (desire to please leader of the pack -- handler) drive.  He shows a lot of determination and persistence, and is quite fearless of all but the handler (responds almost instantly to a verbal reprimand).  The pictures above actually don't do him justice as he is a very handsome, nicely built dark sable.  If you are interested, I can send more pictures of him.  Ears are coming up nicely too -- these pics are a few weeks old!   Cerf von der Tetiaroa -- sable male, Working Quality Additional Picture/Pedigree:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/562471.html C-Litter 09.04.08 Cerf1.jpg (117K, 800 x 600)   C-Litter 09.05.08 Cerf1.jpg (95K, 640 x 480)  Cerf ("Surf") is quite the oposite of Chios -- he is balls to the walls crazy 24/7!  He is absolutely full of it and I have not yet found the off switch for him.  He is a bit shorter backed, a little bit taller (more leg), and has a little less bone than Chios, yet is still a gorgeous very dark sable boy.  He actually has less rear angulation than Chios does as well.  He is not at all handler sensitive, yet still has desire to please (pack drive), but not nearly to the extent of Chios.  However, his food and play/prey drives are extreme!  And he is absolutely fearless and definitely sees no o
