I used to know what it stood for. I know it's probably in one of the Schutzhund books I have here but can't seem to find it. One of those questions that seems like it would be easy to find the answer but I can't seem to.
We are starting a new DVG club and are trying to come up with a name and the O.G. thing keeps coming up and why so many clubs have that in their name.
I know I'll find it as soon as I submit this post LOL.

It stands for Orts Grupe. It is part of some club names in Germany, of course, and some American clubs use it......but why???

Thanks!
So what does Orts Grupe mean? Local group maybe?
I've typed it into 2 translators and they give me the english translation as orts grupe, which is kind of funny.

Hi,
OG = Ortsgruppe
You are right, it means local Group of the SV. Lets say a local group in Berlin, will be called " Ortsgruppe Berlin ". It's the local club in Berlin, within (or part of ) the SV.

OG is an Ortsgruppe, a local club or group.
LG is a Landesgruppe, like a regional group. So, you would be an OG from an LG, like OG Indianapolis Schutzhund und Polizei from the LG Mideast Region. The LG's have numbers to them that break them up into their regions. For example,
LG01 is Landesgruppe Hanburg/Schleswig-Holstein,
LG02 is Landesgruppe Berlin-Brandenburg, etc., etc. so on and so on
When someone competes their first two numbers on their vest denote their LG. Then the competitor's number. For example, someone with a vest number of 0601 would be a handler from the Westfalen LG. The LG's have their Regionals, called LGA's.
